Super Micro Computer shares dropped over 8% Monday after Taiwanese prosecutors raided its local offices as part of an expanding investigation into the alleged smuggling of NVIDIA AI chip-equipped servers to China. The operation searched 12 locations including the offices of Chief Telecom and distributor Albatron Technology, and summoned six individuals for questioning. The raids widen a case that began in May with arrests over falsified export documents. The actions follow US indictments alleging a $2.5 billion smuggling scheme involving Super Micro’s co-founder. Taiwan currently lacks specific criminal statutes for AI chip re-exports but is considering legislation to close that gap, as Washington intensifies pressure to stem the flow of advanced technology to China.

Taiwanese authorities raided Supermicro offices and affiliated sites on June 29, 2026, as part of an expanding investigation into the alleged smuggling of NVIDIA AI chips into China.
Scope: The raid targeted 12 locations, including Supermicro’s Taiwan office, data center operator Chief Telecom, and distributor Albatron Technology, with six individuals summoned for questioning.
Allegations: Prosecutors suspect servers loaded with high-end NVIDIA accelerators were routed through Japan using falsified export documents to bypass U.S. export controls.
Market Impact: Supermicro (SMCI) shares plunged approximately 8% to $28.15, extending a significant monthly decline amid regulatory scrutiny.
Legal Context: This action follows U.S. charges against former Supermicro executives and highlights Taiwan’s efforts to align its export controls with U.S. restrictions, potentially criminalizing such chip diversions.

The ChiComs are getting their chips. That’s a given.
When all the evidences in the world indicate that, “The Chinese are out to get us,” best to operate as if such is likely.
"Considering"
Electric chair those involved.
My system is built around a SuperMicro main board. They are one of the few good quality independent motherboard designers/manufacturers. I have had bad experience with Asus.
That lines up perfectly with everything I’ve heard about their products.
Most don't realize how long this has been happening unless they're close to the business or trade circles. China has been stealing technology, resources, IP and everything else imaginable for generations. The Chinese likely had their hands on the restricted chipset architecture before it went into domestic production.
Until people can fully accept the concept that STEALING/TAKING is the fundamental economic input to the Chinese 100 year plan. It's part of the Chinese culture for many generations. They don't take "no" for an answer and don't acknowledge the consequences.
The boss of Nvidia is co-founder and CEO Jensen Huang, born in Thailand, emigrated to Taiwan.
He has led the Silicon Valley-based US technology company since its inception in 1993.
He has steered it from a video game graphics chip startup into the world’s most valuable company and a primary engine of the global AI boom.
Nvidia is incorporated in Delaware, and headquartered in Santa Clara, California.
While it designs its graphics and AI processors in the US, it mfgs the physical chips primarily through partners in Taiwan.
FYI, SuperMicro has been caught in financial shenanigans many times in the past!
That’s why i stayed away from their stock, i would not buy it on a bet.
They cook the books.
SMI was also caught having Chinese spy circuits built into the hardware on their motherboards.
google it.
I know about that. I think that was after I bought my board in 2019.
That's what I was getting at regarding their financials. The most recent (but probably nowhere near the last) time it happened, they managed to botch together some year-old numbers the last day before delisting. I've got other investment quandaries from time to time, I don't need that one.
“ The boss of Nvidia is co-founder and CEO Jensen Huang, born in Thailand, emigrated to Taiwan.”
You got it backwards. He is Taiwanese, born in Taiwan.
His family moved to Thailand and then the US.
In 1973, at the age of nine, Jensen and his older brother
were sent to live with an uncle in Tacoma, Washington.
His uncle accidentally enrolled the brothers in the Oneida Baptist Institute in rural Kentucky, mistakenly believing it to be a prestigious boarding prep school. In reality, it functioned largely as a religious reform academy for troubled youth.
During his time there, Huang faced severe bullying, did not initially speak English, and worked daily chores that included cleaning the dormitory bathrooms.
