He needs to keep the campaign money coming in so he can get his last bit of grifting in.

That’s what entitled people do. And, like Tillis and Cassidy, he will probably use the rest of his time (if he is defeated by Paxton) to slow walk and put a monkey wrench in all programs Trump wants.

Maybe so, it’s a risk we’ll have to take.

Easiest political decision in modern history

Paxton has momentum and Texas is fed up with Cornyn for good reason.

It Paxton wins, Trump has a solid and capable ally in the Senate.

If Cronyn wins, he is going to stop pretending to be a MAGA conservative the day after he is re elected and will immediately revert to his RINO, Trump hating and MAGA opposing, bi partisan “reasonable” (read Democrat) positions on everything from immigration, gun control, DEI and healthcare

Cornyn is the ultimate embodiment off the establishment Republican's arrogant “who else are they going to vote for” attitude to the long suffering Republican base.

This time Republicans have legit answer to that age old RINO question and his name is Paxton.

Time for Texans to Send Cornyn Packing - Vote Paxton

I wonder if the SOB is planning to run as an I after Paxton whips him. Because, you know, America needs John Cornyn.

Because he wants to split the R vote and get Talarico in the Senate to assist the Dems in blocking anything good for the country, just out of spite.

On another note, I sense Trump has had it with Thune. He will be removed as leader of the Senate. What a disappointment. A McConnell clone. When you look back at the RINO landscape it’s no wonder we never seem to get anything done.

“Cornyn is the ultimate embodiment off the establishment Republican’s arrogant “who else are they going to vote for” attitude to the long suffering Republican base.”
_________________________________________________

Good summation. I voted yesterday. I’m not sure what prompted Trump to do this so late. For the past 30 days, Cornyn has been running a series of devastating ads highlighting Paxton’s obvious character flaws. For the casual observer / voter, the ads are very persuasive. Paxton gave Cornyn this gift.

I am no big fan of Cornyn. Once every six years he comes home, puts his cowboy hat and projects an image of a rough and tough cowboy. At the age of 74, he should not have run for re-election. He should have stepped aside early and allow a spirited primary of numerous qualified candidates to emerge.

I expect to get roasted here for the following observations, but they come from one who has observed and been involved in Texas politics for several decades. GOP primary participants include a sizable contingency of evangelical voters who look not only at policy positions but also the character of the individual.

Paxton’s behavior pattern cannot be written off as youthful indiscretions. He announced his candidacy for U.S. Senate and within a month was observed cavorting around a Dallas hotel with his latest mistress (a so called “Christian influencer”). His wife (a State Senator herself) finally had enough with his multiple indiscretions and filed for divorce on “biblical grounds”. For his own reasons, he can’t seem to keep his zipper zipped.

The Pastor of his home church in the Dallas area (Televangelist Jack Graham) pulled his support and has now joined Cornyn’s “Faith Advisory Team”. Same for 1st Baptist Church pastor Robert Jeffress, who otherwise is a close confidante of Donald Trump.

Not surprisingly, the astute observer will note that Paxton lost the Dallas area to Cornyn in the first round of the primary, even though Dallas is Paxton’s home base. (Cornyn is from San Antonio). With the current round of ads saturating the major markets, I expect that margin to grow in the runoff.

Were Paxton to eke out a primary victory over Cornyn, the issue of electability becomes a serious matter. Paxton could become the Roy Moore of 2026. As loony as the Democrat Talerico is, the Democrats have already cut their ads against Paxton and will contrast his sleazy character flaws against the young and clean cut Talerico. It will take untold millions in precious GOP money to hopefully carry Paxton across the finish line. Cornyn would easily make mincemeat of Talerico.

While I won’t be in a celebratory mood, I fully expect Cornyn to survive this challenge and hopefully will go on to use his considerable influence to serve the best interests of Texas in hopefully his final term.

He should get out now. President Trump said the person he doesn’t endorse should leave and let Paxton concentrate on Telafreako.
