Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI.
AI/robotics will produce goods & services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation.

The best way to deal with high unemployment from AI is to expel illegal immigrants who take American jobs, ban H1-B visas, and restrict immigration to people who will create jobs other than correction officer positions.
That is in fact The Plan, and recent studies show AI literally collapsing the economy in all scenarios.
Who’s gonna buy stuff if no one has a job?
So to prevent mass rioting and rebellion, the suggestion is to send some scraps from the table down to The Little People. Or cattle, which is probably a more likely view they have of us.

Many Americans have already devolved into zoo animals from DEI (actually, that's an insult to zoo animals).
Humans need work and meritocracy, not a handout they didn't earn.

Richard Nixon was promoting the idea of a UBI type system back in 1969. “Family Assistance Plan”; a form of guaranteed income was passed by the house, but ultimately abandoned in 1972 after being derailed by conservative opposition.
The plan (aprox. $1600. annually in 1969 dollars) was to replace Johnson’s flawed welfare system with a minimum income for families, but it was killed due to political pressure and concerns over dependency.
What will happen is a sudden increase in value of hand made unique items and historical items. People must conspiciously consume in some manner, and this is how.
The second thing that will happen is what happened in Gilded Age — a return of formal dining and complex cultural ceremonies, plus ample servants, with servants being extremely well-paid and educated (which was the case of a butler, for example. That’s a management position that would probably pay $500,000 today. Not exactly “service” as we think of things..

I’m no Nostradamus, but I think that as the number of jobs shrink they will start passing laws like bars cannot play recorded music, that all music must be played by live bands of actual humans.
Looking WAY into the future, he’s probably right. AI and then robotics will be taking over most jobs. That is the reality of where we are heading.
What are people going to do for income? It is a serious question.

I hope they send checks for a million dollars to each resident of the U.S. each month. That will help us buy stuff we need.

It is a foot in the door….a first step. Don’t think for a second if the democrats get back in power that they won’t expand and morph that program to something totally unimaginable right now…..like they do will all Federal programs.

UBI only works in a Utopian world where machines and AI are doing EVERYTHING. Why would someone choose to remain being a plumber when they could get universal income and hang out at the beach all day? Why would an AI developer choose to continue working when they can get paid for not doing so? What is the incentive to continue working to advance society or maintain and enhance AI systems and robotics? Musk sounds very naive here...Nothing like this can be contemplated for another 50-100 years or more, if ever.
