$100 Oil Is Solving Russia's Budget Problem
Oilprice ^ | 27 Mar 26 | Charles Kennedy

Russia is getting an unexpected windfall from the war in the Middle East. The Kremlin’s oil revenues this month hit a four-year high as oil prices jumped to $100 per barrel amid the Iran war and the de facto closed Strait of Hormuz. Moscow expects so much additional revenues from the oil price spike that authorities are unlikely to downgrade Russia’s economic prospects, hold off on planned budget cuts, and even boost military spending on the war in Ukraine, Bloomberg reports, citing sources with knowledge of the matter. A month ago, Russia was considering lowering the oil price level above which it sends the proceeds to its wealth fund as oil and gas revenues were plummeting with widening discounts and key Russian buyers like India pulling out of the spot market. But the Middle East war and the worst disruption in the history of the global oil market pushed oil prices above $100 per barrel and prompted the United States to give buyers a free pass on Russian oil purchases. As a result, the price of Urals, Russia’s flagship crude, has now nearly doubled to about $100 per barrel as demand for Russian oil in India is soaring again. The oil price spike has already given Russia a reason to postpone the planned budget tightening. Moscow has now scrapped plans to make a substantial downgrade to its economic growth forecast for 2026, according to Bloomberg’s sources. Russian oil revenues have steadily increased in March, thanks to higher shipments and soaring oil prices, according to tanker-tracking data monitored by Bloomberg. In two of the weeks this month, Russia was estimated to cash in the highest amounts of oil revenues since 2022, just after its invasion of Ukraine drove prices above $100 per barrel. Russia is cashing in on the Iran war....

While the EU and West keep piling on the debt in historic amounts, Russia keeps generating revenue, in any currency it wants.....

We will never ally with Russia because we have zero reason historically or politically to the do so.

Do they need to be our enemy?

Answer: No they do not. Commerce that makes sense to both countries is what should happen moving forward.

However, their ability to export oil has been seriously limited after Ukrainian missiles did serious damage to several major oil-loading port facilities. Export capacity has been cut by about 40%, and it will take several months to repair the damage.

Look at the commerce that we have with Russia compared to that which we have with Europe. Your math is a bit off.

But the 16,500 sanctions and the war spending is killing them!

Quick breakdown:

AI overview:
Russia's government debt-to-GDP ratio remains relatively low, estimated at approximately 16.4% to 19.8% in 2025-2026.

AI Overview
As of early 2026, the U.S. federal debt-to-GDP ratio is approximately 124% to 125%, indicating that the national debt exceeds the country's annual economic output.

The Ukrainiacs are having fits but Keir Starmer committed the UK to seizing oil tankers linked to Russia this week.

France seized two in the Mediterranean already. Belgium took one in the English Channel. Denmark and Sweden done similar stuff.

Ukraine attacks tankers regularly in the Mediterranean no less and sinks them. Two cases already.

Russia is putting security teams on tanker possible warship escorts.

So stay tuned on this folks could escalate.

Europe is dying because it's run by inbred idiots. Either we take the retarded and arrogant Europeans over or we cut them loose and see how they do. Maybe they'll fix themselves. They are worthless as allies. They are ungrateful dependents that will never lift a finger for us. They just take and take and take.

Zero reason historically? Russia was our ally in WW1 and WW2.

2 months into the year they had already reached 90% of projected annual deficit.

With prewar 1.8 % of worlds GDP and most likely in recession even with war time economy, double digit interest rates, most likely double digit inflation, small business closing in record numbers, major businesses at or near bankruptcy, massive tax increases, fuel exporter to fuel importer, food exporter to food importer, 2nd largest military arms exporter to arms importer, auto industry crashed, truck industry crashed,!farm equipment crashed, coal industry collapsed, yup follow Russias lead😎

Other than getting a lot of their young men killed... Russia does not have a “mountain of problems”. Their National Debt is approximately $465 Billion with only about $61 Billion of that owed to creditors outside of Russia. The economic sanctions were largely evaded by Russia, China, India, our EU allies, and just about everyone else who wanted their products.

They are sitting on the world's largest proven reserves of natural resources... when the Ukrainian issue is resolved their economy is poised to take off. The demand for their energy products is higher than ever before.

The Ukrainians just bombed some of Russia’s most important oil export infrastructure, and it won’t be repaired for months, at least. Whatever benefit the Russians might have gained from higher oil prices has been more than offset by what Ukraine did. In any case, Russia has more problems than merely financial ones. Ukraine is actually beating them back at this point, a nation with 1/4 of its population and a good part of its territory occupied. I couldn’t care less if Russia runs a balanced budget or even a surplus, if their army can’t fight it’s way out of a wet paper bag.
