U.S. Rep. Christian Menefee holds a narrow lead over longtime Rep. Al Green in Tuesday's Democratic primary for Houston's 18th Congressional District, but possibly not avoiding a runoff, per preliminary votes.
The big picture: If no candidate clears 50%, the race will head to a runoff — setting up a showdown between Menefee and Green. For Green, who was first elected in 2004, the stakes are steep after he decided to run in the 18th District when lawmakers redrew his old seat to tilt Republican.
It also highlights the generational battles among older and younger members of the party. Menefee is 37 years old, while Green is 79.
By the numbers: With 73% of the vote counted, Menefee was leading with 46% (33,799 votes) over Green's 45% (33,122 votes) as of 1:45 am, per the Associated Press.

I dunno. Let the old geezer win so that we don’t have to worry about an up and comer.
One shouldn’t say this but the longer Greene stays in office the more likely he dies at his desk.
I have met Al Green. He is the absolute dumbest, stupidest person I ever encountered in politics. Somebody owns him. He is an idiot.
That’s not unusual. They are elected by proving their obedience. Thinking is greatly discouraged. All those tantrums are just a dance for the dimes and quarters that onlookers throw.
