A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing a fatal crash in October that killed a bicyclist and a hit-and-run earlier this month that killed two people, police said Friday.
Long Beach police say Ahkeyajahnique Owens, 24, allegedly killed bicyclist Raul Augustin Gallopa, 35, of Long Beach, in an Oct. 6, 2025 crash as well as Gilberto Lopez, 21, of Midway City, and Bobbi Smith, 24, of Buena Park, in a Jan. 4 hit-and-run.
In the Oct. 6, 2025 crash, Gallopa was riding eastbound on Fourth Street around 7:53 p.m. when he attempted to make a northbound turn onto Bonito Avenue, according to Long Beach police. That's when he was hit by a BMW driven by Owens, which was speeding eastbound on Fourth Street, police said.
Owens remained at the scene of that crash and was then arrested for reckless driving, police added.
The Jan. 4 crash occurred when the same BMW, allegedly driven by Owens, ran a red light at the intersection of Sixth Street and Atlantic around 10:14 p.m., according to Long Beach police. The BMW then hit a gray 2022 Nissan Altima that was headed southbound on Atlantic Avenue and a black 2017 Kia Soul that was headed northbound, according to police.
LBPD officers arriving at the scene found Lopez and Smith, who had been the rear passengers in the Nissan, lying on the sidewalk and road, police said. The officers and Long Beach Fire Department personnel gave them aid but both died at the scene, police added.
Three other people in that crash were injured while Owens allegedly fled the scene, police said.
