Republican Indiana Rep. Jim Baird has been hospitalized following a car accident but is responsive and in stable condition, according to reports.
Baird’s wife, Danise, was also reportedly in the car at the time of the accident and was hospitalized along with her husband. The lawmaker, 80, has represented the solidly Republican Indiana’s 4th congressional district since 2019.
President Donald Trump said in a Tuesday morning speech to a GOP retreat at the Kennedy Center that he wanted to “send our best wishes to Congressman Jim Baird and his wife, who are recovering from a car accident.”
“They’re going to be OK but they had a pretty bad accident. And we’re praying that they get out of that hospital very quickly. He’s going to be fine, she’s going to be fine, but it was a bad accident,” the president added.
Further details of the car accident, which was first reported by Fox News, and the extent of his injuries are unclear.
This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
First Dan Bongino’s wife and now this. Curious
God be with them. The second GOP rep as of late to have an accident.
California GOP Congressman Doug LaMalfa dies and now another GOP Congressman is in a bad car accident.
What ever happened to the Dem US Rep. who went MIA from her district (South, I think) and was later located as a resident in a Dementia/Memory nursing home?
He was probably redistricted out of his job and his heart couldn't handle the thought of being a private citizen.
RIP
Kay Granger? I think she was GOP.
And....the (No) CA Rep who passed this morning....died suddenly.
Prayers said, for all and for GOP protection.
82 year old former Fort Worth mayor Kay Granger (R-TX) retired from Congress Oct 2023. She is currently residing in a Senior Living Facility in Fort Worth.
What happened to Dan’s wife?
Rumor is that she was in a serious car accident. Said to be the major reason he quit. I looked for confirmation yesterday, but found none
Where was the accident? In DC? In Indiana? Somewhere else?
Baird is my congress critter. I hope it’s not terribly serious. He’s not a young guy.
Checked again. The accident was in Maryland. She was driving a SUV in February of 2024 and hit a patch of black ice. She received a concussion and sprained wrist after hitting a telephone pole.
If any of that is correct, that seems too long ago to have an effect on Dan’s resignation.
Thanks; it seems like my recollection was a case more recent than that but not sure.
Prayers up for the Bairds.
And don’t forget the congressman from California. Hmmmm
Thanks for the update.
