I always tell people, Thanksgiving is by far the most underrated day of the year. (underrated holiday if you prefer)

In Hong Kong, I found that most Chinese could understand Thanksgiving, but most British didn’t.

One professor from the PRC, who’d lived through the starving times in the Cultural Revolution, who shared Thanksgiving with us, put it simply: “There is no better reason for a holiday than to celebrate the fact that you aren’t starving.”

IMHO Thanksgiving is the Most American Holiday.

When I was in Boot Camp in 1975, I graduated right before Thanksgiving and made it home in time for the big family Thanksgiving dinner, complete with boot camp buzz-cut hairstyle and fit physique.

I found it surprising to me, but I always felt the urge to get home for Thanksgiving, not for Christmas.

It was more important to make it home to simply see people than it was to get home and experience Christmas with them...:)

What a refreshing piece written about America. Someone who looks past the politics and propaganda created to vilify the US and sees the heart and soul of the average American.

Kind of reminds me of de Tocqueville’s writing on America, which name (of the book) I can’t remember.

I recall one of my kids commenting that they encountered someone from another country who was just shocked that essentially the entire country would shut down over one holiday, and one like Thanksgiving no less.
