Man cannot live on Little Debbie’s and Pringles alone.
I think they already cut out the junk foods................
Leftist have always argued that large corporations benefit greatly from the subsidized effect of full time workers at Walmart who also qualified for such snap benefits. It was often the case that such large corporations would direct workers to apply for those benefits.
Know a guy who works for Little Debbie who is shocked at the sales at “EBT stores” of their items.
There are also the Indian/Muslim stores that are handing out cash (50 cents on the dollar) for a cash out of EBT money. Some states only have 2 or 3 people for the entire state doing enforcement.
Let those needing groceries sit through a sermon - one, say, on Proverbs - before getting their box of food.
Good observations. Why should it not be the Pro-American health position of providing SNAP benefits to truly nutritional food. Since SNAP was built around the agriculture busin ss, particularly makers of high fructose corn syrup (that is, Big Corn, which is also Big Ethanol, as ridiculous an additive as that is to gasoline instead of cellulosic (methanol) production from weeds, grass, stems etc.).
So— no more soft drinks, snack foods, and other non-nutritional foods paid for by SNAP. The grocers/stores would howl of course— but the libs should like it (but they won’t, they need the fat, obese dependency constituency- well, dependent on them and fedgov.
Direct thinking to reduce the expenditures within SNAP for the very reason of... in a shutdown we can’t be paying for this.... junk. We are talking about billions in sodas, bag snacks and..... sugar candy. The “other” subsidy program SNAP which subsidizes these industries, who don’t need it. Except Wally Martworld, heh!
I’m not optimistic but maybe there could at least be a limit on the maximum number of full sugar soda 8-packs straddling the sides of shopping carts.
The “cashout” money in ma/pa muzzie stores is quite likely useful as a laundry of their illicit support money in the US— coming from... well, allah the great and merciful via Iran, and name others in the diaspora.
Reminds of the info that came out of how Bin Laden’s al Qaeda arranged financial transfers, even through a world wide network of honey producers (beekeepers, muslim a plenty). This was a subject of much discussion and knowledge within the great American honey producing independent owner/operators.
Most of the people I know who receive SNAP benefits are elderly and/or disabled. They buy real food: bread, milk/dairy/eggs, meat/chicken (in moderation), pasta and sauce, canned goods.
Yes, they might buy a bag of chips and a 6-pack of soda, but these folks don't eat a lot of junk food. They would rather spend their benefits on healthier, nutritious food that fills them up.
What's going on now will be a true hardship for a lot of people in need.
Low-income families often receive SNAP benefits, so this will affect a lot of children.
I’m bit a nosy and look into other peoples shopping carts at Costco. Here in Florida foreigners like Indians tend to buy whole foods: milk, eggs, fruit, etc. Americans obviously buy staples but tend to buy a lot more packaged and processed food.
I think Rahm-a-lama ding-dong said that.
I am for helping children and the elderly through direct funding to faith-based groups via tax credits and incentives.
There can be a component of spiritual counseling and lifeskill training combined to prevent intergenerational dependence.
Churches and private groups are the way to go.
TRUMP READS F.R as does his staff and conservative media.
We need to “rethink government” like DOGE did and outsource these roles to more efficient providers.
We don’t need fat children and adults becoming diabetic with our tax dollars, do we?
I doubt the majority do. Snap benefits are extra supplemental to already existing food help like wic and other programs. I believe the majority are abusing it considering what this extra supplememntal stuff actually buys, soda and chips/snacks and candy.
Overton News: “59% of those collecting food stamps from the US Govt and Taxpayers
are not even Americans. We didn’t know this before the govt shutdown started.” .”
<><>“There are 42 million people in this country that use food stamps on a weekly basis.”
<><>“we say ‘people’ because most people on food stamps aren’t even from this country.”
<><>“45% of Afghanistan immigrants are on food stamps.”
<><>“42% of Somali immigrants,
<><>34% of every immigrant from Iraq,
<><>23% of Haitians.”
This would be as much of a disaster as all the NGO’s are now.
Fedzilla created this nightmare program and something like 40 million people are using it. Cutting it off cold turkey is the fastest way possible to create street violence like we’ve never had.
It needs serious fixing with a goal of winding it to a bare minimum, almost a close.
But cutting it off cold turkey at the moment we are building a ballroom, dumping 20 billion on Argentina and God only knows how much on Ukraine and the defeat and rebuilding of Gaza, and a dozen other things, it should be done wisely, and not 6 weeks before an election.
If I remember back in the 70s (I think) there was a program as you described called “commodities”.
WIC eligibility requirements
You can get WIC if you are:
Pregnant or had a baby in the last 6 weeks
Breastfeeding a baby under 1 year old
A parent, foster parent, or caregiver of a child under 5 years old
Like SNAP, each state sets its own WIC income rules. The state’s requirements must fall between 100 and 185 percent of the federal poverty line.
A doctor or nurse needs to confirm your eligibility for WIC.
One thing I would add is home economics in high school again, and teach girls how to cook family meals from ingredients... cut up a whole chicken, how to can and freeze foods in season, etc.
I bet a vast majority don’t have the slightest idea how to make budget things like good old tuna casserole... or how to make some chicken dumplings, or beans and rice.
I remember being a child in the mid-70’s when my dad’s company (Where he was a manager to be clear) was bought, and all management was fired. And in the interim before he found a new job we were on food stamps. I remember them having a picture of the liberty bell on them, and came in little books like coupons. (About the size of a dollar bill IIRC). And I remember the boxes of food from the USDA. White labels with black lettering. Corned beef, powdered milk, powdered eggs, and farina. MAN how I loved farina! And the obligatory block of government cheese.
I think we should go back to the above.
