The Reform Party of the United States and its New York affiliate have endorsed independent candidate Joseph Hernandez in the 2025 New York City mayoral race, praising his positions on transparency, fiscal responsibility, and political reform.
The endorsements were announced September 7 in separate statements from the state and national parties. In its statement, the Reform Party of New York described Hernandez as “a true American success story” and praised several proposals he has made, including converting vacant office buildings into housing and expanding ranked-choice voting to general elections, which it said reflect the party’s platform.
“Since its founding by Ross Perot, the Reform Party has consistently called for fiscal responsibility and for elected officials to be held accountable for their actions,” the statement reads. “Joseph Hernandez is the only candidate for mayor who offers that level of accountability to the people of New York.”
The national organization shared a similar sentiment in its own release. “Joseph Hernandez represents the kind of leadership New Yorkers deserve—independent, accountable, and deeply committed to the public good,” added Reform Party Chair Nicholas Hensley. “His track record of standing up for working families, fighting for government transparency, and championing practical solutions makes him the ideal candidate to lead the city forward.”
According to his campaign biography, Hernandez, a biotech entrepreneur, immigrated to the United States from Camagüey, Cuba, at the age of seven after his father’s release from political imprisonment. He has since founded several healthcare companies, including Blue Water Venture Partners LLC, which the campaign says addresses “critical human diseases.” He has positioned his campaign around restoring public trust, addressing affordability, and improving public safety.
The Reform Party of New York State described the current mayoral field as “some of the weakest choices in recent history” and framed the race as a test of public trust. Its statement contrasted Hernandez’s background as a refugee and entrepreneur with other candidates in the race it criticized for past scandals or lack of experience, stating his record “aligns directly with the Reform Party’s mission” to restore accountability and confidence in government.
Accepting the endorsements in a September 8 press release, Hernandez said he was “honored to have the support of the Reform Party at both the state and national level,” describing the organization as “a movement built on the idea that politics should serve people, not the other way around.” He added that his “only boss is the people of this great city.”
Hernandez, who is running on the Quality of Life ballot line, is among several independent candidates in the field, which also includes incumbent Mayor Eric Adams and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Another independent, Jim Walden, suspended his campaign earlier this month, urging other challengers to do the same in the interest of opposing Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani. The general election is scheduled for November 4.

Ok...Never knew NYC had another candidate in the race...
The NYC election resembles the one in Chile in 1970 when a divided electorate allowed a Communist to take over the country with only a plurality of the vote and not a majority.
Reform Party rushes to help the Communists.
