Yeah, the Brewster Buffalo and the Roc were both TERRIBLE Jets - in part because the were NOT jets, but were piston engined fighters. What a goofy article by another “expert.”
The P-59 was not designed to be a front-line fighter. Of the 66 produced, the first 18 were used as a test bed and the rest were used as a trainer. The first production US front-line fighter jet was the P-80.
The Finnish Air Force flew the Brewster Buffalo and had several aces.
In service from 1941 to 1945, Buffalos of Lentolaivue 24 (Fighter Squadron 24) claimed 477 Soviet Air Force warplanes destroyed with the combat loss of just 19 Buffalos.
Five Buffalos continued to fly with the Finnish Air Force until 1948.
Haha just a hobby but the Brewster? Toss in a Russian VTOL?
Is he playing War Thunder and learning from his Discord crew?
I remember listening to fighter pilots from Vietnam flying the F4. Loved it but said the gas tanks always leaked and scariest plane because of that flaw.
Id maybe ask the pilots and engineers?
I thought the same thing. Good example of the problem with modern journalism.
Thought it odd at first that they named a jet fighter after the WW2 prop plane. No, just sloppy writing.
I’ve also read that the Finn’s liked the Buffalo and used it effectively against the Russians.
The USAF Squadron Officer’s School is here at Maxwell AFB. As an Air Force retiree I frequent the base often.
I see young Captains in the food court of the BX at lunch time all of the time. I will always make pleasantries and talk to them. The pilot students will wear their flight suits, and the F-35 pilots wear their F-35 patches often on these flight suits.
Bottom line, because so many posters on Free Republic—who aren’t USAF pilots, or aeronautical engineers—are always complaining about how awful the F-35’s are, I ask them how they like the aircraft.
To a man (and woman) they love this aircraft. Say it’s the best ever.
Why would they lie to me? They might exaggerate the plane’s abilities some, but they’re very, very enthusiastic about it.
Modern journalists think fighter jet is a synonym for warplane, battleship is a synonym for warship and AR-15 is a synonym for rifle.
No. They don't think. That's part of the problem.
They're also catastrophically ignorant, and not particularly intelligent. That's a bigger part of the problem.
Then, they learned "journalism" by going to college and getting a Bachelor of Arts degree in the topic. That makes them feel that they're better than everybody else.
Finally, they're leftists and they hate America. That may be the biggest part of the problem.
Add it all together, mix it well, and let it ferment ... and you have a truly toxic brew of intellectual sewage, spewing from almost all of "Big Media" and a large portion of "new media".

Please tell us your level of experience in flying fighter aircraft.
You speak so knowledgeably that you must have thousands of hours flying jets.
You’ve got ZERO credibility as regards anything that flies if you can’t tell the difference between a Brewster Buffalo and “a jet.”

It is interesting what well trained Finnish pilots flying Bullalos flying against Soviet aircraft could do. Compared to trained US pilots flying Buffalos against well trained Japanese pilots flying the most maneuverable fighter in the world at that time.
The press sessions during Desert Storm showed their total ignorance. Members of Schwarzkopfs’ staff used to plead for a chance to be lead at a briefing just to have fun with the ignorant know it alls. That was 34 years ago and the press has gotten both more egotistical and m exore ignorant.

I have a good friend who is a retired 20yr. Air force Colonel that flew F15s. (3 combat victories). Next time I see him (this week) I'll ask him about the F35. He will tell me,and I will pass it on here.
I’d put the Vietnam fighter that had no guns, all missiles in the discussion. Wasn’t that that F-4?
Soviet pilots loved their P-39’s. Half of the 10 highest-scoring Soviet aces logged the majority of their kills in
P-39’s. Aleksandr Pokryshkin had 59 kills total
(47 in the P-39) making him the highest-scoring P-39 fighter pilot of any nation and the highest-scoring Allied fighter pilot using an American fighter. On May 8 1945, a Soviet P-39 shot down a Luftwaffe ME-262.
