The problem is that Trump has similar tariffs on India, Taiwan, and others. The result is that instead of isolating China, Trump is punishing American allies. For instance, imports from China were being slowly replaced by those from Taiwan, Vietnam, and India over the last few years. Now that Trump has slapped tariffs on everyone, China is again the cheapest source, so EVERYTHING is now cheaper from China.

I saw this at the Harbor Freight store yesterday. Much of the older stock (import date from 2024 and early 2025) was from the pacific rim and India. Newest stock (summer of 2025) was all made in China.

Because labor and business costs are higher in China-alternatives, that makes China more attractive with Trump's tariffs on our Allies. If Trump is trying to help out his good friend dictator Xi, he's doing a splendid job!
