Is this the beginning of the English revolution?
The Telegraph ^ | 25 August 2025 | Robert Tombs

When we see people of all ages and both sexes demonstrating under St George’s Cross and the Union flag, and when local residents hang flags on lampposts, it is a sign of something momentous.

This combination of English and British flags is full of meaning, symbolising respectively the culture of the country and the sovereignty of the state – both now under threat.

Usually, displaying the flag signals loyalty. Today, it has become a sign of discontent. When local authorities remove our national flags because they are deemed “dangerous”, the point is emphatically underlined. “We are the people of England, and we have not spoken yet”, warned the writer GK Chesterton in 1908.

Some of our rulers would prefer that it remain that way.

The English exception Flags have not usually inspired in England the emotion they hold in some other countries. We use them on shopping bags, underwear and cushion covers. We shrug if angry foreigners burn them. This is partly because we have many other national symbols, most obviously the monarchy.

Moreover, when England was at the heart of an empire and of a successful multinational state, flag-waving seemed unnecessary and even provocative. It was what foreigners did. The English, and the British more generally, confined themselves to a limited number of official days on which the Union flag would be decorously flown. We were confident enough in who and what we were not to need to wrap ourselves in it. Today, however, flying flags that assert English and British national identity challenges the legitimacy of the country’s own elites.

This is not the first time such a thing has happened.

Go, UK, go. Your accomplishments far, far, FAR outdo the awfulness of the lands of the religion of hate, rape, misogyny, and death. Kick their asses OUT! Oh, and evict your leftists, who are far more loathsome and deserving of death than your illegals.

I suppose it could occur if it was led by women.

The problem is half of England opposes this as Nazism.

Starmer is getting ready to recognize a Palestinian state the long arm of Israel is reaching out IMHO.

The political shift is shocking Nigel Farage is sounding more like Tommy Robinson every day after spending years at a distance from him.

It's possible that things are getting really bad so Nigel Farage is finally with it.

And King Charles hasn’t said a word about it yet as far as I can tell. I just did a search using “King Charles and St. George’s flag controversy,” and came up with a big, fat zero.

Start out in the countryside, with all of the villages. Start in the north and work south. House to house.

One of their principal strategies has been an attack on national history, and opinion polls confirm what many of us feel intuitively: that the effect on young people is to alienate them from their own nation.

Same in the USA

“The wrath of the awakened Saxon” - Kipling

It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late,
With long arrears to make good,
When the Saxon began to hate.

They were not easily moved,
They were icy — willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the Saxon began to hate.

Their voices were even and low.
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show
When the Saxon began to hate.

It was not preached to the crowd.
It was not taught by the state.
No man spoke it aloud
When the Saxon began to hate.

It was not suddently bred.
It will not swiftly abate.
Through the chilled years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the Saxon began to hate.
