Most bears killed by humans in Florida are killed in vehicle accidents. About 300 bears are killed in vehicle accidents in Florida each year.

The chard shows the number of bears killed from human causes in Florida by year. The blue spike is when they had a very short hunting season. Another hunting season is expected in 2026.

Bears frequent roadside crossings in less remote areas , where there is little traffic. People often travel a little too fast, and dark bears in the middle of the road at dawn or dusk move a little too slow. I’m guilty Of just missing three over the course of thirty years of back road driving.
