The Deep State first tried to take down a sitting President of the United States more than half a century ago.
It took more than two years of effort after the June 17, 1972 Watergate burglary, but on August 8, 1974 they succeeded, when President Richard Nixon announced from the Oval Office that he was resigning from office the following day at noon. Nixon was the first president in American history to resign from office.
21 months earlier, in November 1972, Nixon had been re-elected to a second term as president in one of the greatest electoral college landslides in the history of our country. Nixon won 49 states. His Democrat opponent, Senator George McGovern, won just one state – Massachusetts – and the District of Columbia, our nation’s capital.. The final Electoral College results were overwhelming: 520 for Nixon, just 17 for McGovern. And in the popular vote, 60 percent cast their ballots for Nixon, with only 37 percent for McGovern.
But less than halfway through his term in office, Richard Nixon was gone.
Why? Not because of Watergate. Not because of a smoking gun.
No; it was: Secret meetings between judges and prosecutors; evidence hidden from defense attorneys; biased juries; an unaccountable prosecution force packed with political enemies, Congressional leaders who were out to get the president, and a dishonest media.
The Deep State took Richard Nixon down by unprecedented prosecutorial misconduct, withholding of exculpatory evidence, reprehensible judicial misconduct that included many prohibited secret ex-parte meeings with prosecutors, massive violations of Fifth Amendment due process rights and Sixth Amendment fair trial rights, and the one-sided dishonest reporting by ALL of the dominant media outlets of the day—CBS, NBC, ABC, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time Magazine and Newsweek Magazine.
All told, a corrupt judiciary and unaccountable prosecutors violated the due process rights of Nixon and the Watergate defendants more than a dozen times. We will document all those due process violations—something that no one else has ever done in more than half a century.
This is how the Deep State took down a president — and created the playbook they’ve used ever since.

The whole sordid affair was revenge for Alger Hiss.
If Nixon had been a Democrat the MSM would have circled the wagons and Watergate would have blown over in one new cycle.
Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein would have thrown the "anonymous" tip in the trash. So we would never have heard about thr Watergate scandal if Nixon was a Democrat.
That's the thing. We are buying into the narrative by the Left.
We have a two-tiered justice system in the U.S., you can do whatever you want as long as you are a Democrat.

40 people were indicted—most convicted—for a wide variety of crimes.
In the case of some of them Nixon did not even know their names.

I would imagine they even keep copies of incriminating tapes....especially when the guy who controls the tapes works for the CIA.

He did the Liberals work, and then they threw hi overboard. Not enough people on the Right cared. I would have vote for John Scmidtz in 72. Nixon was VERY Liberal.
Nixon did NOTHING wrong at all, and the stinking LEFTIES were after him for decades before that! And Ike NEVER stood up for him either, which was/is disgusting!
And I got THAT from the man who was instrumental in kicking her out, at a book signing ( he's from my area and gave a very interesting talk/lecture at our City Hall in the '90s ) and is also in his book, which he signed for me.

Republican Progressives were not a far left as the media wanted. They were pro-American, for one thing.
He would likely have been considerably better than Ford or Carter...

I know you like him, but go look at his Economic and foriegn policy. Epa, expanded the Great Society, took us off the Gold Standard. Began the sellout to Red Chinw.
M Stanton Evans said that Watergate was a bright spot for Conservatives. He also said that there wre only 2 things Conservatives didn’t like about Nixon: his foriegn policy and his domestic policy. Liberals now have high praise for Nixon
Many years ago I fellow I knew with a prophetic gift said that Nixon was only not supposed to be removed, but the Church didn’t pray. Makes sense now.
I doubt that you even know, nor understand what THE CHECKERS SPEECH was all about. I do and long afterwards, actually met and knew the wife of one of the GOPers caught in that web of DEM harassments...so know for REAL "insider" info.
The Checkers Speech was great. And his exposing of Hiss was heroic.
