Gamblers say these are the GOP’s and Democrats’ 2028 rising stars: Here are betting markets favorites

It’s still three years away, but gamblers have already coalesced around a clear favorite to win the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, according to one betting market.

But Polymarket data shows gamblers believe the runaway leader for the GOP nod will lose in November to a Democrat.

Vice President JD Vance has a massive 48-point lead over Secretary of State Marco Rubio -- who is in second place on Polymarket -- with 56% to Rubio’s 8%.

No other potential GOP contender is above 5%; President Donald Trump, although constitutionally barred from serving a third term, is at 5% along with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son, is next at 4%, with Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin at 3%.

The Democratic side, where there is no clear party leader, is more competitive.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom leads the pack at 21%, followed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York at 16% and Biden Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at 12%.

No other potential Democratic candidate hit double digits.

After Buttigieg are a quartet of Democratic governors: Kentucky’s Andy Beshear at 8%; Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro at 6% and Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer and Maryland’s Wes Moore at 5%.

Also at 5% is 2024 Democratic nominee and ex-Vice President Kamala Harris.

I said the same thing to my wife, who was registered as a Democrat, when slick Willy beat out moonbeam to be the Democrat candidate.

After what the hugely successful Trump administration brings about in America, I seriously doubt Newsom's abysmal rule over California can compete. I don't see the Dem's approval ratings soaring even in three and a half years from the dismal <20% it is now. Toss in AOC or Buttigieg, and even LESS chance. I think everyone is going to benefit from the Republican way of government and voters won't want to give it all up counting on any of them.

Watch for Dem governors Shapiro and Beshear.

They’re both physically attractive and well-spoken (both are important, unfortunately) and could be dangerous.

The soon-to-be mayor of New York City was born in Uganda so he is ineligible. If only he had been born in Kenya...

It appears that 90% of Democrats are racists, preferring non-black candidates.

Watch for Dem governors Shapiro and Beshear.

Shapiro, normally I would say yes. But no, because he's Jewish and his party is now antisemitic.

Beshear is a bore.

Beware of Moore in MD. He’s a snake in the grass. We live in MD and he is playing I’m a moderate while every policy is promoting is far left progressive. He’s black, charismatic, well spoken and he was in the military. He’s the Gavin Newsom of the east coast.

My sister (Maryland resident for almost 50 years, but retiring to PA) thinks Maryland Governor Wes Moore is a big future Dem star and somebody to be worried about. Moore’s charisma, military background, Rhodes Scholar credentials, and connections to high-profile figures like Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney, who praised him as “spectacular,” contribute to his image as a rising Democratic star.

He has consistently denied presidential aspirations, but his actions don't support that. He appeared in early-primary states like South Carolina, where he headlined the Democratic Party’s Blue Palmetto Dinner, and Pennsylvania, a key swing state. He has made national TV appearances on shows like The View and Fox News Sunday, further evidence of a potential presidential bid.

My sister is shocked that a rise up from nothing guy like that with a strong military background could become a raging leftist. He claims to be "a pragmatic, center-left mainstream Democrat" whose policies focus on economic growth, public safety, and affordability, with initiatives like tax relief for small businesses and investments in education and infrastructure. He’s emphasized job creation and private-sector partnerships, as seen in his handling of the Francis Scott Key Bridge recovery. But he supports "affordable housing" and climate initiatives.

Plus, he has the correct melanin...

It's really too bad he wasn't named "Les" instead of "Wes."

That's not a bad line-up for 2028 President and Vice President.

If this is the rat's "dream team" then the Republicans will have to mess up mightily to lose this.

Make no mistake, they ARE capable of screwing this up.

Name recognition is nil, for both. They won’t get traction over Kamala, AOC, and Mayor Pete. Also, neither Shapiro nor Beshear is going to want to waste their capital going up against JD. They’ll have some other sacrifice…like Charlie Crist was against DeSantis in FL’s 2022 Gov race.

Pretty black man will try to be the “Obama” candidate.
I do not trust any one who is or has been a “Rhodes Scholar!”
What or who has Maryland ever given the USA that had a worthy character?
