Israel bombed s Catholic church in the Gaza Strip, on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

This Israeli bombing killed three people and wounded 10 others, including the parish priest, Father Gabriel Romanelli. The church compound was sheltering hundreds of Palestinians, including Christians and Muslims, who were displaced by the Israel-Hamas war.

Israel expressed regret over the incident, describing it as an accident, and stated that they are investigating. The Israeli military claims that fragments from a shell fired during operational activity in the area mistakenly hit the church.

The attack has drawn condemnation from various international figures and organizations, including the Vatican, NPR, and the United Nations Secretary-General.

Whatever the facts are in that case, the investigation will uncover whatever it does.

Here, in this case, however, we have a visitor to Taybe attesting that in fact the church was not even touched. The fire was in the meadow near the church, where the Jewish shepherds grazed their flocks and herds. The “violence” and “arson” consisted of said shepherds using leaf blowers to attempt to extinguish the fire, which was damaging their grazing grounds, and endangering their animals. The allegations about “settlers” setting fire to the Byzantine church in Tayibeh are a nothing burger. Stone churches are highly non-flammable anyway. But even the stones outside the church had no signs of scorching.

Israel bombs Gaza’s only Catholic church

A priest who was a close friend of the late Pope Francis has been injured in an Israeli strike on Gaza’s only Catholic church.

The attack on Thursday killed two people, injured several others and and damaged the Holy Family Church. It is one of three surviving churches in the war-ravaged enclave, which have become refuges for displaced Christians.

“The Holy Family Church in Gaza has been struck by a raid this morning. There are several injuries in the place, including the parish priest, Father Gabriel Romanelli,” the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem said.

The Cross still stands, after an Israeli attack causes grave damage on the Church of the Holy Family in Gaza:

At least two of our fellow Catholic sisters in Gaza have been killed, and many are injured, including the Parish Priest. In declarations to Vatican News, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pizzaballa, said the following: “What we know for sure is that a tank, the IDF says by mistake, but we are not sure about this, they hit the Church directly, the Church of the Holy Family, the Latin Church.”

Trump’s reaction ‘not positive’ to Israeli army’s strike on Catholic church in Gaza
But Isearl is sure to get its annual $5 billion US tax dollars
LifeSite News ^ | July 17, 2025 | Patrick Delaney

While the Israeli government claims the bombing to be a mistake, church officials are reportedly considering it may have been ‘a deliberate act of retaliation’ for a recent Church statement.

The White House states President Donald Trump’s reaction to this morning’s Israeli military strike on the only Catholic church in Gaza was “not positive” and prompted a call to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

At around 10:20 a.m. local time on Thursday, the Holy Family Catholic Church compound “was struck by the Israeli army” killing at least three and injuring nine others “including one in critical condition and two in serious condition,” according to a statement from the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

During a White House press briefing today Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked about Trump’s reaction to the bombing and responded, “It was not a positive reaction. He called Prime Minister Netanyahu this morning to address the strikes on that church in Gaza. And I understand the Prime Minister agreed to put out a statement.”

She went on to claim, “it was a mistake by the Israelis to hit that Catholic Church. That’s what the Prime Minister relayed to the President. And you should look at the Prime Minister’s statement on that.”

But according to The Pillar, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, expressed doubts that the strike on the church was a mistake.

“What we know for sure is that an Israeli tank hit the church directly...... the Church of the Holy Family, the Catholic Church.”

“We don’t have complete information about what has happened in Gaza today because the communication in Gaza is not that simple,” the Franciscan cardinal said.

However, the Catholic outlet went on to report that “sources close to the patriarchate’s chancery” told them “Church authorities were considering the possibility that the tank attack” upon the church was “a deliberate act of retaliation” for Church authorities speaking out on Monday against violent terrorist attacks by Israeli settlers against the Christian town of Taybeh in the West Bank.

Two different churches.

One church located in Gaza, hit un-intentionally by broken IDF shell.

Another, in Samaria, ancient church’s grounds had a fire that was un-wittingly “fought” for a while - fanning the flames.

They didn’t have enough water to put out multiple brush fires. It never rains in the summer in Israel, and water’s needed for the flocks and herds, and farming.

“fanning the flames?” Right. Because sheep and cattle are too materialistic. They need to learn to do without grazing fields./s

You don’t mean to tell me that the islamist psychos lied to us do you?

Because I would not be shocked at all to learn that.

Not one little bit.

Re: "Photo - The Cross still stands"

A solid majority of Christians would not realize that is a Cross.

The percentage of Israeli soldiers who would recognize that as a Cross would be lower.

This is War. Bad things happen.

Correct:

“Samaria, ancient church’s grounds had a fire that was un-wittingly “fought” for a while - fanning the flames”

The period of time: “for a while” <— during which some people managed to fan the flames <— THAT being used to the advantage of Israel’s detractors.

Possibly a “controlled brush fire?” One of the fellows has a brush fire tank pack, on his back.

All of which is primarily hamass’s fault.

hamass started this war by raping baby girls until their pelvises broke before shooting them dead in the vagina.

Israel has been on the counterattack in the war that hamass started.

Collateral damage and mistakes occur in war. Israel has admitted this mistake in the war that hamass started and hamass can end the war tomorrow if they surrender and release the hostages.

hamass has a thoroughly documented history of almost exclusively fighting from illegal positions in and under hospitals, schools, civilian infrastructure and religious institutions.

This is all exactly hamass’s fault for starting and not ending their war in which MISTAKES MAY HAPPEN!

My understanding was that the mistaken destruction at the church was caused by a 120mm Merkava tank round.

Regardless, in wars muslims start, there may be collateral damage which is hamass’s fault!

Collateral mistakes aren’t allowed in the world of jew hatred. In their minds It’s always the fault of Jews doing something intentional znd violating human rights when something bad happens in the theater of war. Amazingly they overlook the atrocities of the actual terrorists that you mentioned above.

There are three or four “FReepers” who seem to want a Jewish / Christian war. Their only posts are those which attempt to foment strife between the two communities which are almost exclusively in brotherly harmony.

Which will be proved if they respond in their usual way to this post.

1. Hey, racist Liz, you just dug up a July 17 . Keep on digging and not respond to updates. 2. Liz is upset that the church wasn't burned. Ambassador Mike Huckabee @GovMikeHuckabee: Investigation reveals no damage to ancient church in Taybeh & investigation of origin of fire continues. I have NOT attributed the cause of fire to any person or group https://x.com/GovMikeHuckabee/status/1947485289792082210
