The European Union and the US administration are nearing a 15% tariff deal, according to a report on Wednesday by the Financial Times, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
Three individuals familiar with the developments reported to the newspaper that Brussels is advocating for the deal to prevent a tariff increase to 30%, as previously suggested by President Donald Trump. The measure is expected to take effect from August 1.
However, the European Commission reportedly briefed envoys on Wednesday after discussions with the American representatives. It is also indicated that both sides might eliminate tariffs on certain goods, such as aircraft, spirits, and medical devices.

President Trump is the right man to reset US trade. It’s been a long time coming.
My question would be, why not eliminate tariffs on BOTH sides?
Say 0% for American goods going to Europe, and 0% for European goods coming to the USA?
Is that too simple a solution?
China, US to hold trade talks from July 27 to 30

For quite a while now, I’ve wondered what would happen if ALL countries had 0% tariffs on ALL others countries.
then you would have true ‘Free Trade’ :)
I think the Euro-dollar exchange rate worries Europeans a good bit. One Euro buys $1.18 presently.
Only if no one is being subsidized.
That would be free trade. Tariffs are “needed” because apparently America can’t compete with cheap Chinese/Indian labor OR 1st world Japanese/European/S Korean labor either.
We’re all gonna die.
Roughly equivalent to VAT.
So, given that Japan #4 is done, and the EU is #2 and close to being done, then you’ve got 4 days of talks between China and the US on July 27-30, things could really start to take shape regarding the reset of world trade...India falls in line and you’ve come a long way...good news if you ask me.
Two words: non tariff barriers. The Europeans love to put US companies at a disadvantage with that sort of thing.
Very good news. And you make the point quite well that President Trump is not only the best negotiator for resetting US trade but he knows how to bring other countries to the bargaining table and close a deal quickly. He’s 6 months in office and look at the progress! You might have thought he’d spend his full term getting it done.
we hold all the cards because our citizens have all the money and use it to buy stuff.
Tariffs are not the only trade barriers. They can still put nontariff barriers such as certain requirements, standards, and so on.
