I’d rather only let the population grow naturally for a while and let wages alter to meet any increased labor demand.

Yes, the US population might grow naturally. Perhaps in a generation, we'll have considerably more US born people than we have now.

What if the economy starts booming within the next 6-12 months? Will we have enough folks to fill all the newly created jobs?

If the economy starts booming I’d rather the advantage accrue to those already here with wage increases. Higher wages may bring in more of those not working. The US labor participation rate has steadily been declining since the late 1990s: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/CIVPART
