CNN always wants to say left-wing radicals are less radical than you think, according to "some experts." They're never going to perform that trick for conservatives. CNN reporter Nathaniel Meyersohn attempted to mainstream socialist New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s demented push for government-owned grocery stores.
As if anyone needed another reason to make like a banana and split from the decrepit Big Apple.
Meyersohn celebrated Mamdani’s lunatic “plan to create a network of city-owned grocery stores” in a June 30 so-called news item. Meyersohn gaslighted readers by claiming Mamdani’s state-run supermarket was “less radical than critics portray,” according to “experts” he found to make his point.
The CNN reporter acknowledged that the proposal was being “blasted as a ‘Soviet’ style disaster-in-waiting,’ ‘farcical’ and ‘economically delusional,’” but he then took a detour straight into the logical toilet. “But Mamdani is drawing on government-owned and subsidized models that already exist in the United States,” Meyersohn chirped.
Same energy: Government rationing is just the spider’s ankles! Just ask Venezuela or Cuba! CNN’s post of Meyersohn’s story on X is in the middle of getting ratioed straight to hell.

I wonder if they are aware that there are literally pictures and news articles documenting the Soviet era breadlines....

Comging soon to NYC...
A good discussion to have, would be, whether people can really save on grocery expenses at such govt run stores, and if there will be the same choices and variety of products available.
I have not checked recently, but in the past, there were reports that supermarkets profits are around 2 percent or less of gross sales. So , assuming they want to run these stores just to break even, people are not going to save substantially shopping there.
Of course if they want to subsidize these stores directly, then everyone’s taxes will pay to cover operating losses.
Another issue is merchandise available. Will there be many choices we are used to? Bernie Sanders once said something about how we don’t need huge number of choices of various products. With such a socialist mindset, will these stores have only white bread, no whole grains, no rye, no sourdough, for example. ? WILL these stores only have the basics but limited choices?
Future in NYC:
After 50 minutes in line at the government distribution food center, the shopper goes outside to meet with the informal group of neighbors. “Trade you 10 pounds of rutabaga and sand grown potatoes for your peanut butter and saltines.”
If there is a viable, sustainable government or NFP grocery store anywhere in this country, I would like to see the address of such a place.
CNN and Mamdani both have a lot in common, both chant “Death to America” “Death to Israel”
Not going to happen without a crisis.
2% profit on average is correct. And this is achieved from people who have spent their lives in this business.
One can only imagine what the Government will achieve - the vast majority have never in their life had to meet a payroll.
Where’s General Augusto Pinochet when we need him?!
Oh yeah. Soviet Socialists grocery stores were so successful. Of course, the youngen’s voting for this Marxist have no memory of the Soviet Union, China, Vietnam and Cambodia with their concentration camps that murdered millions.
And what will they do with the eventual shoplifters?
NYC already has:
Free Public Transportation
Free Housing
Free Medical Care
Free Education
Free Food
Free Money (Goobermint guaranteed income)
for all the aggrieved groups.
Not much left to give away for this Marxist/Mooselimb.
Oh yeah, NYC & NYS are broke.
Prosecute theft, and maintain safe streets...mainstream stores and markets will return to the food desert.
So many private stores will close and so many families will lose income. Some of those stores are probably at least 100 years old and owned by the same people.
That and the younger generations don’t care.
NY has a state budget of $254bn for 2026.
FL has a state budget of $115bn for 2026.
NY has one of the highest state income tax rates, topping out at 10.9% (at $25m+), but 6% or 6.85% for most ($80k-$1m).
FL has no income tax.
Most people would agree that Florida's state services are superior to what NY provides, but at less than half the cost.
As with almost every giveaway, you’ll have a secondary market of those selling what they got for “free”, and using that money for drugs or alcohol or fraudulently accumulating cash, or anything else.
