Mannix began as a “conservative” Democrat three decades ago, but (rightly) decided that if he wanted to move up in Oregon he would do better as a Republican-—he has a mixed primary record (in both parties), and has lost a number of close general races, including one for Congress (which is how I recalled his name), close to twenty years ago.
The only state-wide office he has held is State GOP chair, which explains a good deal.
He likely considers himself a centrist-—conservative Dem//liberal Republican——which in Oregon makes one a nut.
