Who would have thought a corrupt and racist New York Attorney General would have been the agent used by divine providence to effect the reform of the National Rifle Association?
Neal Knox and his reformers nearly succeeded in taking over the NRA in the 1980’s and early 1990’s. Neal Knox – The Gun Rights War is a collection of writings by Neal, edited by his son Chris. The goal of Neal Knox and his organization was to make the NRA management and finances more transparent and to focus the NRA on being more effective politically. Those efforts were stymied by the “old guard” wielding power inside the NRA. It has been alleged that the insiders saw the primary role of the NRA as a money-raising machine to line their pockets.
NRA salaries and perks multiplied after the Knox reformers lost against NRA insiders. The insiders controlled the NRA magazines and the nominating committee for the Board of Directors.
After Neil Knox’s tragic death in 2005, his son, Jeff Knox, continued to operate the Knox organization with attempts to reform the NRA and to bring transparency to the NRA finances. Corrupt New York AG Letitia James filed a lawsuit against the NRA in 2020. The purpose of the lawsuit was to dissolve the NRA.
“The NRA’s influence has been so powerful that the organization went unchecked for decades while top executives funneled millions into their own pockets,” said Attorney General James. “The NRA is fraught with fraud and abuse, which is why, today, we seek to dissolve the NRA, because no organization is above the law.”
Letitia James failed in her attempt to destroy the NRA. Instead, the oversight of the New York court was enough to allow reform candidates to be elected to the board of directors.

"No weapon forged against them shall prevail".
A lot of NRA members have been praying for reform...
Just a start. Long way to go to restore faith in the NRA.
There are way too many “charitable organizations” that do more to line the pockets of their execs than do any real good. We need serious reform on what constitutes a charity. And it should start with all volunteers at the top. These should be positions for people who have made their fortunes & now are prepared to give back.
Unintended Consequences on part of Queen Letitia. Reformers will be much stronger proponents of RKBA than the Old Guard was.

I wouldn’t say that the nra is now reformed, and it’s time to support them again.
There’s many of the old board and other people that were connected and knew of the corruption going on at the nra, and with lapierre, that are still there.
For those that don’t know, lapierre and his cronies, basically looted the nra, and treated it as their piggy bank. Lapierre spent lavishly, had a mistress on the side (an intern), even almost had the nra buy a $6 million home for him...
They spent so much money, that supposedly items from the nra museum had to be sold off, to keep funding things.
