Thursday’s talks in Turkey between Moscow and Kyiv will serve as the latest test of whether Vladimir Putin is serious about a cease-fire deal.
And if Putin fails, President Donald Trump faces a test of his own.
The prez expressed optimism that “some pretty good news” will emerge from the negotiations.
Yet Moscow has feigned an interest in peace before, only to show its real stripes.
Remember, Putin was the one who started this war and who’s broken past cease-fire terms.
As long as he believes he can gain some advantage, he’ll keep up his attacks — no matter what he “agrees” to.
So it’s good Trump is threatening secondary sanctions on Moscow if no accord is reached.
Russia’s economy is already precarious, and it would suffer serious hurt from serious additional blows.
But getting Putin to accept any realistic peace agreement will likely also require Trump and the West to boost aid to Kyiv — particularly military aid: weapons and equipment that can make a difference on the ground.

Ultimately, that's up to Trump.
Methinks you are suffering from premature prognostication, one has to act in good faith on the world stage before they can withdraw from a stalemate (Ukraine) or break out the cans of whoop-ass (Iran).
Agree, they’re all that calculated and evil.
Sounds more like you got fooled by your television.
I trust Trump’s judgement on this. That’s why I voted for him. He’s common sense. But no matter what he decides it’s not because we are legally bound to do anything for Ukraine.

Send them off to the Russian front.
So did Zelensky by making more demands.
How about a big hell effin NO
Yes, the entire staff, management and owners of the New York Post should be immediately sent to the Uke Nazi Front in Ukraine to force the Russians to make peace.
They should LEAD the force from the FRONT!
Bullcrap. We have no business in assisting the neo-nazi Uke dictatorship, nor in expanding the EU and NATO.
Putin has consistently, since before the war had some straight-up red line conditions and was always willing to negotiate. We flipped the finger and refused and built up the Uke army for 8 years.
Now on the ropes... we want to negotiate? WE and our pet nazis desperately need a way out. The people who are desperate for the deal are the ones with the cards.
What part of NO don’t they understand in Washington DC?
Of course they wrote this editorial. The media loves war, war and more war. It’s good for business.
Remember how they were cheering the bombing of Libya like crazy? How did that one turn out?
If that happens we oversee the aid 100%. Zelensky and oligarchs must be sidelined. If this is the new direction Putin will regret this. Trump plays to win.
“The scale and grandeur of the Russian effort make it the greatest achievement in all history.”
Who said that?
This article does a good job of repeating all the globohomopedo talking points
“Vladimir Putin is serious about a cease-fire deal”
Putin isn’t going to give Zelensky and Trump extra days to overcome current Russian battlefield superiority.
The US weapons systems and industrial capability are unquestionably superior to those of Russia.
The clock clearly doesn’t favor Russia, therefore a ceasefire is not something Russia seeks.
Russia wants a long-term deal, but it will settle for Odessa by Christmas in early 2027.
Not really.
They do have the numbers. But it's 2:1.
They need 3:1 because they're on the offensive. Which may happen because this is a war of attrition.
The budget fight underway is likely going to fail, given what is on the table now.
The awareness and focus on the 10’s of billions of dollars being pushed back and forth trying to maneuver to get the votes needed will be all consuming of the Administration’s attention.
Then along comes the NY Post saying $100B has to be sent to the EU and Ukraine.
Who is going to welcome this request? Where does it come from? Mandatory or discretionary? DoD? DoD does not have $100B laying around. State? That’s probably bigger than State’s budget (slated for cuts btw).
This is the result when a great power formerly able to throw money around now faces $37 Trillion in debt compounding at 3.4%.
