J&W Seligman & Co. did not have a huge support team. They were European villagers who made it big in America for a time, first as peddlers, then as merchants, then as investment bankers, and then faded away. Their brokerage is now the property of American Express.
The Rothchilds are no longer as big a thing, either.
...[E]specially if you can’t acknowledge the reasons for the general discomfort with the Jews held by 16th and 17th century natives of eastern and central Europe that started during the 10th century when certain Jewish folk were making it big in the slave trade.
Why mideival central and eastern European villagers didn’t like Jews.
1. Killed Jesus;
2. Use Christian children’s blood for matza (in Islamic countries it’s Muslim blood);
3. Lend money with interest;
4. Poisoned well waters to give everyone the Black Death.
The slave trade in Slavs was a big thing during Roman times, too, not an exclusively Jewish trade during the Middle Ages, either. Nor in the West Indies and the rest of the New World, either. Jews were involved with it along with everyone else. It was not regarded as an unpardonable evil at the time, but as part of the consequences of wars and famines. It was how excess population was used. After the Judaean rebellions, the Romans enslaved Jews, too. For that matter, the Khazar Empire of eastern Europe became largely Jewish after the king and his courtiers converted to Judaism.
I’m guessing that business was remembered by the European villagers for quite a few more centuries.
European villagers in central Europe purchased slaves along with everyone else. Illiterate villagers had no sense history other than oral, and whatever their priests told them, and a visceral mistrust of Jews as interest-charging, kreczmy-owning, Jesus-killing, well-poisoning, baby-blood-stealing, Devil-worshipping Jooooos!
Killing Jesus played a bigger role than the fact that sometimes a slave merchant might have been Jewish. The Lithuanians remained heathens until the 14th Century, and had no anti-Semitic tendencies at all until their prince had to convert Roman Catholic to marry a Polish princess and thereby form an empire. He did. The nobility and ambitious commoners did the same until the country was Christian and then anti-Semitism began to blossom and stink up the place. Ergo, mideival Christianity with all its quirks had more to do with it than the eastern European slave trade.
“Of course, you being familiar with the Rothschildes my mentioning the Sassoon’s lock on the opium trade during the 19th century is barely worth mentioning. But I did.”
OK, you did.
You forgot to mention the British takeover of Jamaica, instigated by Jews living in Jamaica who feared that the Inquisition was moving in on the island, notwithstanding that the hereditary Duke of Jamaica, descended from Chris Colombus himself, had the prerogative of choosing an Inquisitor, usually a doddering old coot. Colombus had great affection for his Jewish crew members, who stayed loyal to him during the mutinees and Indian uprisings he survived. So he repaid that loyalty, as did his children and grandchildren until the War of Spanish Succession, when Jamaican Jews, under threat of a new Inquisitor chosen by the Inquisition, went to England, gave Her Magesty’s Government a cock and bull story about a gold mine, and England grabbed the island. The gold was never found, but it was such a strategically placed and rich island that it became worth more than any gold mine might have been. To hold the island, it became a privateer enclave, and after the war, a pirate enclave.
Wooooo! Jooooos!
Check under your bed. Gypsies might be hiding there, egged on by the Joooos!
When the narrative starts falling apart expand it. If it starts getting out of hand kill it.
The Taliban has many great weapons systems. Ask Joe Biden.
