Stephen Smith is no friend to the right. You can’t be half whacked out liberal and half conservative. It just don’t work that way. Smith’s positions change for whatever group he’s speaking to.

He’s an admitted liberal on the social issues. He said so. He’s trying to thread the needle, to say he’s conservative on taxes and money/economic issues, while trying to appeal to liberals on the social issues.
