Welp, it sounds like they've arrested the man accused of stealing Kristi Noem's purse, and SHOCKER, he's not in this country legally.

We wouldn't be more surprised if we woke up tomorrow morning with our heads sewn to the carpet.

Ah. Thanks. I forget there’s a fine line between irony and not-the-least-bit-surprised.

"It should have been on her lap, locked closed, and chained to her waist or wrist."

The purse she carried that night had a long enough strap, so that if there wasn't room for it anywhere else but on the floor, she could have put the strap over her knee, or her leg through the strap while she was seated at the table. It wouldn't have interfered with her meal. Then she definitely would have known if someone was trying to steal it. I've even put my purse behind by back when seated in a chair at a table to dine, if there isn't any other place to put it. And if I'm seated in a booth, I put my purse on the other side of me away from the aisle. Sadly, it takes an experience like that for someone to think more about not having their personal space invaded. In the end, you can't rely on someone else to keep you safe, you have to be prepared at all times to do it yourself.

The purse itself was worth $4,000 I believe, and the wallet inside was worth $600.

WORTH $4,000 and $600? We're confusing COST with VALUE. A $50 purse and a $19.95 wallet will serve the same function just as well.

They have no clue that when they leave their purse sitting wide open in a shopping cart, and they're 6 feet away looking at something else, they're leaving themselves open to becoming a victim.

OK, remember the police sting series "Bait Car"? Where they set up car thieves to be caught? Let's try "Bait Purse"! Equip the Bait purse with a rat trap set to smash the fingers of the criminal. Or the dye pack used in bank drawers (one disguised as a wallet, maybe) to mark the thieves. Or both!

Nope, never heard of it.

We still haven't gotten the details about what this guy was doing in that restaurant at that time of night. Did he just walk in and case the joint in order to help himself, or had he eaten there, and grabbed her purse on his way out. Since he's got a record of committing the same crime...what his M.O.?

About the only two women I ever saw who was never without their purse was Queen Elizabeth II and Margaret Thatcher. Must be a thing with British women.

Queen Elizabeth communicated with her staff by the way she held her purse.

Mrs L has these neat little purse hooks that hang it underneath the table or bar right next to her or between her legs. (Affectionately known as “my happy place).
