The Chavista regime of Nicolás Maduro is playing with fire and knows it! US Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a stern warning yesterday from Guyana: any aggression against this country or ExxonMobil's operations in the Essequibo will have "serious consequences" for Caracas.
In a press conference alongside Guyanese President Irfaan Ali, Rubio didn't mince words: "It would be a very bad day for the Venezuelan regime, a very bad week, and it wouldn't end well."
The message is clear: the US will not tolerate the bravado of a declining leftist dictator.
Maduro, the tyrant who has plunged Venezuela into misery, has been escalating tensions with Guyana over the Essequibo for weeks, a resource-rich region he claims with arguments as flimsy as his economy.
Earlier this month, a Venezuelan military vessel dangerously approached an ExxonMobil platform in Guyanese waters, an act Washington called "unacceptable" and a "clear violation" of internationally recognized territory.
Rubio, backed by the might of the US Navy, reminded everyone that "we can reach any part of the world" if Chavismo crosses the line.
Rubio's visit to Georgetown was no coincidence. While Maduro threatens illegal elections in the Essequibo to consolidate his territorial delusion, the US is bolstering its support for Guyana with new defense and security agreements, especially to protect offshore oil facilities.

Good. Other than hosting the occasional apocalyptic cult leader, Guyana is pro-western and a pretty inoffensive country generally speaking.
Maduro would be a “Kool-Aid Drinker” to attack Guyana but he is a Marxist like Jim Jones.
Maduro probably does not want to see what happens when a GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) goes off right over his house.
Does our CIA still have the muscle to back up warnings by enabling mysterious deaths of such as Maduro himself or persons important to him? The Soviets liked to engineer “acvidental” drownings, fire deaths. Etc of spouses and children or both. It was demoralizing and effective against double agents and defectors.
I have this feeling that if they tried to invade Guyana, they’d get their butt’s kicked.
The world would be better off if the U.S. quite playing “Footsie” with both Venezuela and Iran. Just think about how the nations of Central/South America would react if the Government of Venezuela would become pro-western. Simultaneously, just think about what would happen in the Mideast if the Iran Government would fall and become pro-western. We could make both of those things happen almost overnight and i for one think it is time to do just that. I guess that makes me a “War Monger”.
Establish a military base to be paid for with oil. It’s an ounce of prevention.
A one-year mandatory military service for the locals wouldn’t hurt.
