If you are on vacation you set up your e-mail to autoreply that you are out of the office, when you will be back and who they should contact.
At least that is how it works in the real world. In the government apparently not checking your email for a few years is perfectly ok.

An e-mail sent to 2.3 million people will not follow up on such a response. Not all employees need that sort of response. They get caught up on their e-mail when they get back. Worst of all, even if the message is received, the employee must admit that he did not do ANYthing, because he was on vacation.

He’s still got 8 hours to get it in.Tweet Trump to remind him to send the email.

You don’t think Trump was scrolling here while Macron was talking his ear off?

Even if you are the janitor you need to have that sort of response. Maybe especially if you are the janitor. Because, "I smell gas in my office" is not the sort of thing that you want someone checking out at their leisure.
Worst of all, even if the message is received, the employee must admit that he did not do ANYthing, because he was on vacation.
Being on vacation is a good reason for not doing something in the office. Not having your e-mail set up to autoreply is a good sign that what you would have been doing if you were not on vacation is not necessary to keep the government running.

I’ve heard it’s a bad idea to do that, especially if you get a lot of external e-mail. You might come back and find your house has been robbed.
Supervisors should answer the e-mail, saying that so-and-so and so-and-so are on leave.

You say that you will be unavailable between this date and that date and here is who to contact in case it is urgent.
For all anyone knows you are spending the week installing claymores just inside your fence line.

< br>Straw man. You picked janitor, not me. I was thinking more along the lines of someone in a stenographer pool of 50 stenographers. Some jobs don’t need off-duty response time. Stenographers are in low demand these days, but there are equivalent kinds of jobs that do not need off-duty response. I sure as heck do not check my email on vacation, or even on weekends. In an emergency I get a phone call, and my position DOES require off hours response at times,

You are going to choose stenographers as your strawman? Are we back in the 70s? Just with a worse sound track?
Some jobs don’t need off-duty response time.
And none of those jobs are federal government jobs.
I sure as heck do not check my email on vacation, or even on weekends.
No one said you had to. That was your stenographer strawman that you just set on fire. Please alert the janitor so he can clean up the mess.

Yeah, yeah, I am sure the government is just going to fall apart if you happen to be somewhere that you can not be reached.
Look, I know people are whimpering in panic about how their of so essential job is going to be right sized because they can not be bothered to actually do the most basic of tasks.
Don't care.

Got a one-word autoreply from a guy at work.
“Retired!!”
Saw him at his retirement party. I had printed and framed his reply. Held it up for everybody to see and said “Best. Autoreply. Ever.” Handed it to him.

That is a good one.
One of the guys who I worked with at the end of his last day set the autoreply, "I hate you all, I quit."
The most professional thing ever? No. Was it funny? You bet.

Fortunately a U.S. District judge in deep-red Alabama overturned Elon's ruling and ordered Trump immediately restored to the presidency.
Anyway, yes, it is great that we can laugh at ourselves like this. The Lefties have no sense of humor whatsoever.

That is all that was asked, what did you accomplish last week. Nothing hard and certainly not a term paper. Musk is trying to see what people are doing, especially those working remotely.
To: Dr. Sivana
I was thinking of the poor blokes who picked last week for a vacation.>>. worse the guy who’s wife is dying of cancer and he’s trying to take care of the kids. Elon is showing he’s a lowlife with this. management issues are delt with management not the worker bees.
