Had a tracked package the size of a package of typing paper go to Southern IL to another town 100 miles away in Southern IL go to MO, TN, IN, MO, IN, then to the location. Took 10 days.

The package was three sheets of paper to help the accountant respond to an IRS inquiry that was received 45 days after the required response due date.

For the past 60 years I've watched the slow decline of the post office. When I was young, mail was delivered to the mailbox right next to the front door. When I started out on my own, in my first apartment the mailbox was right next to the door leading to the parking lot. In the mountains, I had to have a post office box, because there were no home delivery at all -- and the later "improvement" was a cluster box.

Now, I receive very little important snail mail. I no longer pay bills using snail mail. I can go a month without picking up my snail mail, and not miss any of it -- especially the third-class mail and, during election season, all the political mail.

The only reason I go in to empty my mail box at the central facility is to keep the mailman from bitching at me about the overload.

And enough already with their stamp options which are heavy with POC. Just stick with flowers and flags.

Mailed a Christmas package from NC to my daughter in GA on December 10th via USPS. She received it two days ago.

If he puts me in charge, the first thing I’d do is cut residential deliveries to 3 days a week. Everyone would either get mail MWF or TThS. Businesses could subscribe to a M-F plan or get mail on a Tu/Th or M/W basis for free. No business deliveries on Fri/Sat outside of the M-F plan. Or businesses could subscribe to a no delivery plan and pick up at the post office daily.

I chose the overnight rate - about $50.
I shipped it 2/18. It is STILL in transit.

Only fools, or worse, are saying that our money losing Post Office makes money with Amazon. THEY LOSE A FORTUNE, and this will be changed. Also, our fully tax paying retailers are closing stores all over the country...not a level playing field!

The Germans privatized their postal service….better known today as DHL.

The other insane deal is "Smartpost" which is where one of the major shippers does 89% of the shipment from the seller to you the purchaser, then deops your order at the Post Office closest to you for it to make the final delivery to you. It takes forever. I refuse to purchase anything from a business that ships using the USPS "partnership" scam known as "Smartpost".

Who sits around and gets paid to think up stupid s&^t like this?

I’ve done work for the USPS and it’s horribly behind all competitors. The best outcome would be some form of privatization or partnership, with the postal union out of the picture.
