LOL: Snopes CEO Claims Fact-Checkers Didn’t Censor Hunter Biden Story, Government Did
NewsBusters ^ | 1/13/2025 | Joseph Vazquez

The CEO of disgruntled leftist fact-checker Snopes — yeah, the same website that got raked over the coals for "fact-checking" the satire site The Babylon Bee — had the chutzpah to excuse away the truth-gatekeeping industry’s notorious, censorial treatment of the Hunter Biden laptop story.

“Let's look at the most famous example of Facebook censoring content, and that was the Hunter Biden laptop story,” said Snopes CEO Chris Richmond during the Jan. 11 segment of MSNBC’s two-hour, weekend lefty spitballing puppet show Velshi.

After host Ali Velshi bemoaned the media being the “scapegoats for a lot of things,” Richmond was teed up to deflect blame away from the fact-checkers for how Big Tech suppressed the New York Post bombshell on Hunter Biden. “And we say, well, it was fact-checkers, right, who told Zuckerberg to limit the reach of that? No, it was the government. So, Facebook complied with the government, and then the fact-checkers get the blame.”

It’s too bad the MRC has receipts that completely upend Richmond’s gaslighting.

Snopes is one of the biased fact-checkers that everyone wants to get rid of. This is like the fox commenting on the killing of chickens in the henhouse.

It’s been a fact all along. There is no misinformation other than what The Party says is misinformation.

Although Zuckerburg basically just said the same thing on the Joe Rogan Experience. Zuck said the Biden administration told them to sensor comments on Facebook of covid vaccines side effects. Whether those side effects were true or not.

It is much worse if the government is at fault.

It is a direct violation of the First Amendment for political purposes.

If true (probably so) the government individuals involved should be prosecuted both criminally, and open for civil lawsuits.

The curious story of David Mikkelson, the original Snopes; fearless leader of the Meanyheads at alt.folkore.urban. On second thought, let’s not go there. It’s a silly place. No smileys allowed. Hi Dr. H :)

Each incorrect “fact check” is actually an illegal political contribution-in-kind> Everyone involved with them needs to be charged - the requestor and those who buried the truth or lied.

Snopes ... Didn’t Censor Hunter Biden Story, Government Did

What's the difference. The whole point of a deepstate is that it transcends organizational boundaries.

“It is a direct violation of the First Amendment for political purposes.”

The first five words of the First Amendment are:

“Congress shall make no law”

It did not prohibit the White House and the Executive Branch from mass censorship.

The legal issue is whether the White House and Executive Branch engaged in behavior that Congress specifically prohibited.

So snopes is blaming the gubmint because snopes was asked to by the gubmint. See? So it’s not their fault, like at all....just following orders. 🤪 Got it

Scumbags trying to deflect away from their own published lies by blaming someone else. Not that the gubmint doesn’t lie.

You are correct. I suspect there are several laws which were broken.

Thank you for the reality check.

The Supreme Court has ruled, in several cases, starting in 1907, 1931, 1969, and 1971, the US government could not stop publication of information by prior restraint.

If the executive branch can censor by prior restraint, without approval of Congress, the prohibition on Congress from making laws respecting freedom of speech and the press becomes meaningless.

The executive branch just assumes the power of Congress in a dictatorial manner.

If the executive branch can do this legally, the whole structure of the Constitution collapses. Where in the Constitution is the executive branch given the power to enforce censorship without legislation?

Good points. I would also point out that Article 1, Section 1 of the Constitution reads “All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.” Other branches of government cannot effectively create law (that is, legislate) in contradiction to this clause. Or at least that’s how it is supposed to work.
