The Marxification of Education Workshop, Session 4 of 4
The hottest buzzword in education today is Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), but it's not just a buzzword. It's a huge program with almost universal installation (thanks to the Every Student Succeeds Act, ESSA, of 2015) and billions upon billions of dollars behind it. What is it? Where did it come from? Should we trust it? To the last of these questions, there are excellent reasons to believe that we shouldn't. In fact, we shouldn't want it anywhere near our children and should fight vigorously to protect them from it. We should also see there's a huge scam operating within the installation of it and that some very questionable actors are strongly behind it, but for what reasons? Here, New Discourses Founder James Lindsay gives a deep, concerning, and thorough (but mere) introduction to the topic of Social-Emotional Learning in this last of four presentations on the Marxification of Education delivered in late July 2022 in Arlington, Virginia, on location in the now-famous Loudoun County, ground zero for the fight for America's schools.
As a result of the research that produced this lecture series, Lindsay has written a detailed and accessible book on the issue titled The Marxification of Education, which is available now: https://amzn.to/3RYZ0tY

Liberals will never give up on treating schools and the US educational system as their BS social experiment. The ‘results’ are painful to watch.
“No matter how good your plan is, at some point you need to stop and look at the results.”
Winston Churchill
DEC needs to be dead
Normal math and phonics put men on the moon. Stick with what works. I’ve come to believe that adopting something “new” every couple years as the latest and greatest thing is nothing more than a payoff to donors who developed the latest and greatest thing. Oh, and to create stupid people who are easily governed.
2. Where did it come from? - Commies.
3. Should we trust it? - Of course you should. You can totally trust the universities that create and push educational fads, you can trust your teachers' unions, and you can trust your teachers to have your kids well-being at heart.
Every new heresy is just a recycling from a limited stock of old heresies. SEL is just the latest iteration of Deliberate Dumbing Down, which came from Prussian reaction against the socially disruptive effects of the Napoleonic wars to ensure that Germans would be compliant soldiers and factory workers, a system studied by psychology department chairmen of all countries in the world. Woodrow Wilson said “We want one class of persons to have a liberal education, and we want another class of persons, a very much larger class of necessity in every society, to forgo the privilege of a liberal education and fit themselves to perform specific difficult manual tasks.” This was to supply a uniform workforce when there were factories, which there no longer have been since the Reagan presidency. Now the mis-education institution, as its own reason for existence, has taken over the life of all age groups, even the elderly, as by John Klyczek describes in “School World Order: The Technocratic Globalization of Corporatized Education” https://youtu.be/-VdkDAP8sd0?feature=shared
Or in a nutshell:
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is a process that helps people develop skills to manage emotions, build relationships, and make responsible decisions:
**Understand and manage emotions
**Learn to recognize, express, and control emotions
**Set and achieve goals
**Create frameworks to achieve goals and make plans
**Feel and show empathy
**Learn to understand and respond to the emotions of others
**Establish and maintain relationships
**Learn to build and sustain positive relationships with others
**Make responsible decisions
**Learn to assess the impact of actions on others and make caring decisions
Bring back “the board of education” and that should fix most of the above problems on day 1.
The Communists just won’t leave us alone. It seems to me that they are eliminating DEI and replacing it with SEL.
All those things are what fathers teach sons, and this program is aimed at urban boys raised by single women.
However, I believe this is one of those hopey-changey plans that will never pan out.
These sound like skills kids should have, although PARENTS are the ones who should be teaching them. The problem is that SEL doesn’t make competent adults. It creates needy people who trust authority over their own best interests. It’s Marxist brainwashing, pure & simple, & shouldn’t be in our schools.
SEL has been around for years, longer than DEI. SEL has the school take over from the parents the raising of children.
