Looks to me like they all played this well .....for all we know it was agreed Johnson would take the heat to navigate their plays.

MJ got the bill from 1500 pages to 118 pages. Nearly 80% reduction.

Take the win here and continue leaning out over the next 4 years.

I did not see a pay raise in the document.

It is a masterful work of deception.

The Congressional pay raise is automatic, based upon a bill that was passed decades ago. It goes into effect unless specifically prohibited in the most current spending bill.

There was no such prohibition in this spending bill. Therefore, Congress gets their raise next year. Clever trick, isn't it?

There is some ambiguity in the original legislation which make it unclear whether the raise is cumulative since the last raise, or only since the beginning of the last fiscal year. That first interpretation would give Congress a 40% pay raise. The second interpretation would give them a 3.8% pay raise.

Want to guess how the law gets interpreted?

This turned out to be a terrific win for DOGE. It was Trump and Elon that killed the porky POS.

Like Trump, the more they attack Musk the stronger he gets. Stay tuned.

What’s your point? That Trump has made mistakes in the past?

Really dumb post.

I wouldn’t count Mike out. Its hard to find someone who can get 218 votes. The conservative caucus is only about 50 or so members. Most of the GOP reps are moderates. They won’t vote for a Jim Jordan.

The mistake Little Johnson made first was presenting that ridiculous omnibus monstrosity right out of the gate after promising is September that he was not going to do that.

I think Schumer has dirt on him. He needs to go sometime in the not too far off future.

The new congress should demand a new speaker with some cajones.

I don't get why raising the debt ceiling is so important.

Why not focus on cutting spending rather than allowing government officials to add more to our already oversized debt?

Good. That's one thing I disagree with Trump on. Don't increase borrowing, decrease spending.

Why would the debt ceiling matter if Trump is going to decrease spending?

Can President Trump reverse any of this after 1/20?

The new congress should demand a new speaker with some cajones.

If Johnson is defeated in the election of a Speaker, the next Speaker will be Hakeem Jeffries.

Or, to put it another way, in the election on January 3, Jeffries will have 215 votes. Johnson starts with 220, but if six Republicans abstain or vote for someone else, Jeffries will be elected 215-214-6.

Do you really think so? Oh how I would LOVE to believe this. I am so confused at this point which side is up and which side is down.

Honestly I think I need to take a deep breath and go knit until January 20th!!

I really really respect your opinions caww , and appreciate your post.

I just don't know what to think right now... and I'm probably NOT alone here.
