There will probably be a bloodbath. But we should stay out of it.
They’ve begun executing the opposition, whoever they are and whoever the opposition are.
There are no good guys there. Now it’s ISIS and Al Queda instead of Assad.
No improvement that I can see.
They are also calling on attacking Jerusalem, but with the thorough work Israel has done in destroying ordinance at will, there’s not much left to attack with.
Plus, they’d be fools to try.
I’m wondering where the Druze fit into all this.
Trump has already stated this. And as hard as it might be, he should hold to his principles, and he will get criticism from all the usual suspects, trying to undermine him.
i thought his plane crashed?
Sharia, the most (missing word) system of governance on the face of the earth, will be imposed.
Are we supposed to guess the missing word in this sentence?
Any honest person knows that Muslim countries can only be lead and controlled by dictatorial governments. Assad was for better or worse, like Sadam Hussein before him, a stabilizing force that mitigated the worst jihadist instincts of the pagan animals. Syrian Christians are now doomed.
Assad and family granted asylum in Moscow:
Saddam Pick up the white courtesy phone. Oh Wait,
Qadaffi, pick up the white courtesy phone. Oh wait.
We have seen this show before. It takes a vicious ruthless strong man to control the blood lust of Islam.
But what about the Jews on the horizon?
“Israel will just have to ... kill more Christians” - FR’s own “nitzy” about Israel in Syria.
The Christian Syrian-Americans I know liked Assad. They have property there still. He was good to the Christians.
I have no idea why his removal is good.
“”Are we supposed to guess the missing word in this sentence? “”
Yes, we are - it happens trying to read and concentrate on any article that’s written today. For once, I read the replies before I posted my criticism of that sentence!! Glad you did it. Thanks.
thanks
Syrian rebels (sunni moslems ) steal food aid from Christians; watchdog warns of ‘ethnic cleansing’.. they have, in less than two weeks, ethnically cleansed the northwest of Syria — including Aleppo and beyond — of Kurds and Christians,” David Curry said. “Despite public protestations to the contrary, we can expect them to extend their campaign to the rest of the country.”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is known for his connection with Sunni Islam.. Erdogan is trying to “dominate” the area through Sunni terrorists..

I hope my friends had the prescience to leave.
Agreed. But a dictatorship is not sustainable in the long term.
The best form of government for the Middle East is a Constitutional Monarchy. Sharia is the law of the land and drives policy in the parliament. But the Monarch gets the power to veto and he has the control of the Army.
So the King gets to keep an eye on the crazies. But everyone feels that their wishes are represented through the Parliament because they are devout Muslims.
It appears to be working in Jordan and the Gulf countries.
Evil is evil.
It must be recognized.
It must be resisted.
It must be restrained.
It must be confined.
Every once in a while it must be confronted as Israel has done with Hamas, Hezbollah, and to some extent Iran.
And now that Trump is in charge, Iran should be set back further.
Iran doesn’t want to engage in a military conflict as there is no indication that these modern Persians have much of a stomach to do battle.
It is developed enough that sanctions can keep it in tow.
That and maybe giving Israel the go ahead to take out any nuclear capability Iran may be developing.
Maybe Israel could open their country for the Christians?
He was very bad to a heck of a lot of other people. Its telling that Assad never managed to recruit enough Syrians to fight the civil war. The Syrian Army as it was had mostly deserted by 2012. That’s why he had to rely on Iran’s “foreign legions” to fill out his ranks.
And that’s Syria, that managed to maintain a conscript army of a million men during the Arab-Israeli wars. It wasn’t great, but there were a lot of them.
