A new report from CNN has revealed that the suspected shooter of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, Luigi Mangione, told a Pennsylvania judge during his arraignment on weapons charges that $8,000 in USD and $2,000 in foreign currency was planted on him.
While standing before a judge at the Blair County Courthouse in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, the judge read the entire criminal complaint against Mangione after he noted that no one had read the complaint to him since he was arrested.
While arguing why Mangione should be denied bail, prosecutors stated that police found $8,000 in US cash and $2,000 in foreign currency.
Prosecutors also claimed Mangione had his passport and a “Faraday bag,” which is used to stop cell service transmission, in his possession.
In response to the prosecutor’s claim, Mangione stated, “I actually want to address two of the things that you said. I don’t know where that money came from. I’m not sure if it was planted.'”

They need to check the victims wife's bank account, and see if she made a recent large withdraw.
Cash has been criminalized in this country. Am I reading a bitcoin pitch without realizing it?
I find the fact that some on social media consider this alleged shooter some sort of hero a bit weird.
Typical smirk-faced preppie fratboy a—h—-.
In case many have forgotten what an Educated Idiot looks, speaks and sounds like, I give you Exhibit A: Luigi Mangione!
The wife was the first person I thought of.
This guy thinks he’s smarter than everyone else .
His next move may be the play the conspiracy victim.
“I was set up”
Seems like a patsy to me. How was he able to know when the CEO would be there , what suit he will be wearing, and then he’s going to be dumb enough to have the murder weapon and incriminating writings on him ? And how is somebody from Maryland or Hawaii or Pennsylvania going to be able to know New York that well to get out that fast ? And then they charge the kid with almost no evidence unless ballistics showed that was the gun. And then the family says they’re shocked, but they didn’t know that was him from the surveillance photos ? The whole thing seems weird.
What country did the foreign currency come from?
He’s going to think he is some kind of weirdass hero when they shove a needle in his arm and his lights go out. Murdering POS.
“And then the family says they’re shocked, but they didn’t know that was him from the surveillance photos ?”
This one is easy. Now that they’ve arrested the guy, they need to update the surveillance photos.
I thought so first also, but then info released made me think he was a looney....now it gets muddy again......
New York doesn’t have the death penalty.
Not sure there’s a Federal charge that could be made to fit.
I don’t know.
Seems pretty relevant. Perhaps a co conspirator was waiting there for him.
This is the problem when police lose credibility. Statements contradicting the police become credible, people stop cooperating with police.
This guy was stupid and sloppy and given the fact that fewer people are willing to help police, it’s a wonder that a citizen identified and turned him in.
Wow 😳
Truth is stranger than fiction. So they say.
