Biden administration secures remote work for certain federal union workers until 2029

A Biden administration appointee has reached a contract agreement with the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), a union representing more than 40,000 Social Security Administration workers, that would allow federal workers to work from home until 2029. This comes amid a series of organized efforts from Biden's White House to impede President-elect Donald Trump's efforts to reform the federal workforce through his newly implemented Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Bloomberg reported that the deal was brokered by President Biden's recently departed Social Security Administration Commissioner Martin O'Malley. The updated contract protects telework until 2029. The agency will maintain its current hybrid work-from-home policies that require employees to be present in the office ranging between two to five days per week.

"This deal will secure not just telework for SSA employees, but will secure staffing levels through prevention of higher attrition, which in turn will secure the ability of the Agency to serve the public," Richard Couture, President of AFGE, wrote in a message sent to union members.

Unions have advocated for the extension of current collective bargaining agreements with federal employees in anticipation of the inauguration of Donald Trump next month. The current White House team is being encouraged by certain union leaders to issue an executive order that advocates for these actions.

President Trump just needs to Reverse JFK’s executive order allowing government unions and the contract is Null and Void.

Let’s get rid of the term “government workers”: they work IN the government, but they work FOR and are PAID by U.S.—the citizens of the United States of America.
So, if they want to get paid for their “work”, that work should be evaluated in accordance with how much it benefits their employers, not “the government”.

Every contract can be re-negotiated. Of all people, DJT knows that.

Unconstitutional.

I’m wondering if PDJT can void this somehow

He should write a new executive order. If you work remotely, at the end of the workday you have to go into the office to sign off on the hours you worked or else you are not paid for that day.So you have one of two choices. Work at home but have to go into the office each day ( on your own time), or just work in the office.

Have you ever wondered how many of these so-called “remote workers” are the actual employees that were hired by the government? Or are they people who are being paid to do the work and pick up an untaxed paycheck from the actual employee who is off traveling the world and going on cruises to spend their money in countries where the entire population is illegally living in the United States and living off the U.S. taxpayers. Just a weird thought. I wouldn’t put it past them though. This might be something the Congress might want to look into. Nobody knows who the hell is sitting in front of those government computers. With all the leaking of government information going on in D.C. these days, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear who the hell these “remote workers” really are. I just don’t believe that Joe Pedo’s “remote workers” really are who they say they are.

Void this somehow? The first thought is to abolish the whole agency.

Eliminate the AFGE union with the stroke of your pen Mr President. If not, tie it up in court until it collapses.

Nah. The Trump administration can rip up any agreement made by the Biden administration on day one. There is nothing Biden can do to bind a future president.

I still think the federal employment system was managed better and less political under the old Civil Service Commission.

However, the politicization bacillus was injected into federal employment by allowing federal unions. This was done by JFK through an EO and nailed in place by LBJ with legislation.

Federal unions are allowed by legislation passed by the LBJ congress and later signed by him. This made concrete JFK’s EO. It will take legislation to repeal that!

The biggest issue is whether they are doing anything useful. Otherwise, they need to go.

They will be offered large severances to leave, or they can stay under grueling work demands until they want to go.

That ruling can be overturned by Trump on his first day. It will require a court hearing, but just stop paying the salary for the 40,000.
