... U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials on Saturday announced the largest seizure ever of counterfeit Gibson electric guitars.
Working with U.S. Homeland Security and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, agents recently seized more than 3,000 counterfeit guitars at the Port of Los Angeles, the nation’s largest seaport complex.
...
All three agencies will be on hand with Gibson officials Tuesday morning in Carson, just a few miles north of the Port of Los Angeles, to detail the seizure and — in advance of the holiday shopping season — to caution consumers about fraudulence products sold on e-commerce platforms and other sources.
Here is a quick primer video on distinguishing a fake Gibson — often made in China and referred to as “Chibsons”

My sister and her husband used to make Gibson acoustic guitars and Gibson closed the shop but we all got a guitar
Solution: give each illegal alien a guitar and they’ll be easy to find!
Y’all remember when obamaumao sent in the US Fish and Wildlife SWAT team with drawn weapons INTO the Nashville Gibson factory to seize WOOD stocks of finished product wood, which was not cleared by CITES? Incredible!.
And now this? How damned ridiculous. Right hand vs. Left Hand— they seized legitimate wood stock supplies from a US based Gibson factory, because the wood was finished in the US and not Madagascar or India or some shitehole. Idiotic. Trade enforcers vs. MAGA enforcers.
This is definitely a LATE head fake pretending to be MAGA. They already got valuable wood supplies obamaumao seized- the a@@hole.
Probably sounded like a Chinese Zither
Change the headstock logo to “Epiphone” and no one will notice.
Guitar Ping. :-)
The Chinese fakes have flawless finishes without any blemishes or tooling marks.
Just you watch, the gov’mt will destroy them.
Instead, they ought to be donated to school music depts — after having their backs etched: “fake”.
They're made in the same Chi-com factory.
My very unpopular opinion is that Gibson should open up a plant in Mexico for their basic, entry-level models.
Fact is, Mexican Fenders are incredible guitars.
Gibson won't listen to this idea. And why should they? They sell every single Made in USA instrument that their Nashville plant turns out.
“ Just you watch, the gov’mt will destroy them.”

IMHO that would be the proper thing to do.
LOL...I take it you’re a fender Fan?
I still remember when the Obama administration seized Gibson's entire inventory of rosewood and ebony (used for their fretboards) under their ridiculous interpretation of CITES rules, resulting in a temporary abomination of Gibson guitars featuring baked maple and richlite fretboards for their $2k-$4k instruments.
Nothing wrong with baked maple. Fender makes outstanding necks from this wood. Richlite is basically highly compressed cardboard.
Not Gibsons.
In unrelated news, 700 tons of fentanyl came through the border today.
I like 'em all!
Good!
Fender Vintera II Jazz Bass (Mexico) not pictured.
Marshall YJM100 Plexi full stack (Great Britain).
And my favorite amp, the Boss Katana II (China).
AWESOME! :-)
I take this as a personal affront. All involved should be hanged.
Nah, this is real and legit. Gibson doesn't do any overseas finishing.
Chinese fakes are an abomination that wind up in the used supply and swindle people who can't tell the difference. They should be used for firewood.
