She had poor self esteem and a mom who doted on her brother….seems if she had been more secure (and I’m not blaming her family) in who she was and what a great, talented woman she was, perhaps anorexia would not have been her fate. But atleast we still have her beautiful music to cherish her by.
Richard was talented musically, and could have made his way without involving her sister. But when you think of “The Carpenters,” the thing that stands out isn’t his musicianship - fine as it was - but Karen’s voice. That was in its own way unfair, since his selection of the songs and his arrangements - and his leadership of Karen -were crucial.
