Both are now Bluetooth. No earphone jack. Bluetooth has been an option for many years. Lightning and USB still work fine if you prefer a wired connection. My daughter uses both.

That appears to be the raised edge of the desktop that keeps things from rolling off...............I saw a much bigger version of that same image and I think you are correct.
