If Rather had just quoted the memo on the Chyron instead of showing the “real” document, some people on the right would have just complained that it doesn’t sound right rather than having evidence of fraud.

True - but that would have invited demands to produce the document to prove it even existed...and if he produced that same one, that would have made it twice as bad - a phony story and then allegations they produced a phony document after the story aired as evidence, since the documents were fake.
You guys do know this was all a disinformation campaign by the pro-Bush side to shutdown any talk of Bush’s “dishonorable” service in the Air National Guard to avoid military service in Vietnam.
Fake documents were circulated by the pro-Bush side, the folks at CBS and Dan Rather were either really stupid for falling for it or just doing what fake news does.
The truthful story concerning Bush using the Guard to avoid Vietnam and his refusal to honor his Guard service commitments without penalty was buried after a successful
disinformation op.
Bush was and always will be a tool of the Deep State.

That isn’t the one I thought it might be - there was one where Rather claimed the raised “th” in one document was the same in another document produced that was known to be authentic - but you could clearly see even on their own display graphic in the news story they were in no way similar.
Yep, no doubt about it. I just saw that clip for the first time today. It was a FReeper Rumble channel that I subscribe to.
At the time I followed the story pretty closely here on FR but that was so long ago. I remember enough to know that CBS flat out lied and their spin on Bush was nonsense.
