that’s not even dumb...back in the day (I live in Illinois have about a half acre) my neighbors creeping charlie was taking over my yard.
I used the mower to scalp everything. I doubled the dosage, of what at the time was, Bayer weed control. It acted like round up...on the weeds only.
It took a long time for the grass (mostly kentucky blue grass)to grow back. No weeds.
I now take the weed control every so often to the perimeter to keep in under control.
Old friend of mine always said “if its green, it stays.
Try baking soda on crab grass. Just sprinkle it on in the morning.
Put lime on your yard
Don’t be a slave to a “lawn”...
Crabgrass is nasty; Scott’s has a granular weed kill product.
Clover fixes NO2 to the soil, for the grass to use and stay green. I like it, but the Scott’s product will also rid the lawn of it.
Moles are Meat Eaters — grubs and other insects.
Adopt some Voles, which are Vegetarians and grass roots are their primo dinner.
Lol, caught me knowing absolutely nothing about either. I’m in the desert as you know and we don’t have any. Thanks for educating me friend. :)
It also kills sticker burrs (sandburs).
It’s expensive, but my neighbor and I went in together on a golf-course level of weedicide called Tenacity. You have to buy surfactant, dye and a 2-gallon sprayer assembly, and follow the directions closely; but if the lawn is a mess, you can bring it back. The other thing is to reseed generously to fill in all the blanks that will be left by killing off the weeds. Now we have nice lawns.
There are several videos on YouTube about Tenacity. Have a look.
Does Bermuda get that high? I have a mix of weeds, Bahia, Bermuda and St. Augustine and the Bermuda is the lowest height of the bunch even if I only mow it every other week. The Bahia will have the seeds stalks if I go that long. Always heard it was better to cut Bermuda as low as you can like .5” for it to spread. Normal grasses would be scalped that low but Bermuda is not. Used to have a reel mower when I was hoping the Bermuda was going to take over but it never did. SW Florida here.
I do have the pump sprayer and a good surfactant. Why would you add dye, to see where you’ve sprayed? If so that’s a good idea.
My boss has used different lawn services for 20+ years and her lawn always had weeds mixed in with her St Augustine. She’s used at least 10 different companies over the years. As long as I’ve been working for her the lawn has never been weed free.
She is not trying hard enough.
I have seen many fescue lawns. I’d think the water bill is pretty stout here in hotlanta. I rarely water my grass, it grows like a weed, along with the other weeds.
loblollys seem to die after being cut at the base.
Glad you’ve had good luck with trugreen, my experience wasn’t very good. I’ve got fewer weeds than when I had their service but they’re still an incense and I’m sure the homeowners gestapo will send me a letter if I don’t do something.
I think you’re correct. Thanks for the link.
With fescue I have tried watering all summer long and I still see a lot of die off. It isn’t water it’s the heat. I need more shade on my lawn.
