I'm not sure it's surrendering to political correctness as it a blind trust in those that govern us. "That's not believable, it can't be true, it's always been this way, etc..." sentiment.
Sometimes we refuse to examine what we don't want to believe because we think the ramifications would tear society apart. Or sometimes we may have to admit we were wrong.
