Warning shots often work with bears. The problem with compiling statistics about warning shots is most instances where they work are never reported.

In the instances where warning shots were reported as being tried, in the 190 cases we have documented where pistols were fired in defense against bears, warning shots worked about 70% of the time.

Of 29 recorded instances, warning shots worked in 21 instances.
