Just wasted several minutes of my life reading both the article and this thread... now a question:

Are said "Vagabonds" squatting on these people's property, or on property adjacent to their property?

Seeing how armed combat assault against people NOT on one's property is kinda illegal in all fifty states, it kinda does make all the difference in the world.

Evidently, the vagabonds are living on an adjacent property, but occasionally hang around the couple’s back yard.

It is worth noting that at least some of the vagabonds are armed, as the couple reports hearing gunshots.

It’s not 1950 anymore. A homeowner with a shotgun and a stern look will not convince these bums to move on. I’m guessing a good proportion of the bums are meth heads. They will react in a very unpleasant way.

The local government had let these homeowners down completely. So there are no good solutions here. The best bad solution is probably for the family to move. And I sure hate having to say that.

See vigilance committees. Government greatly fears these committees because crooked politicians can get caught up in a vigilance sweep and hanged. What makes the vigilance committee even more deadly is that the state guard may refuse the orders of crooked politicians, including governors, and join with the committee to rid the area of human garbage.
