According to Clay Travis from the Outkick program, it benefits Trump if Biden is able to perform reasonably well during the debate. It'll allow the Democratic Party to stick with Biden.

If Biden "fails", then the Democrats will replace him with a better candidate, let's say Gavin Newsom. Then Trump will have a harder time in the general election.
