I read a long article by a SF resident - one who mentioned seeing a drug addict lying naked on the ground eating cardboard and what to do about it - IF ANYTHING.

What I got from her article is the worst, most despicable, thing to do would be to elect a Republican. Better to elect a compassionate rat who claims he will help (but of course does not). Then at least the voter can feel that she tried to be decent and oh well if the guy is still eating cardboard.

I had to wonder how she’d feel if that was her son lying on the ground...probably a whole different attitude.

Not sure about that. They can be awfully stupid with their own children as well.

People like her would still vehemently hate Republicans, and still vote for democrats. But only because they're brainwashed and really have no idea what Republicans really stand for, and they want to believe lies and don't want to know the truth. In short, people like her are a lost cause.

Not really. Ideology over survival. She would gladly sacrifice her son rather than vote for a reactionary Nazi.

That's part of the problem: People don't think through the long run consequences of their actions. You people in CA keep electing people who think giving stuff away while taxing productive members of society will solve the problem. As you've learned, letting people set up tents on the streets just attracts more people with the same problems. Look for a cure to the problem, not a palliative that creates the illusion that the problem is cured.
