Every Senate Republican Signs Letter Supporting IVF

Every single Republican U.S. Senator on Wednesday signed a statement of “strong” support for legal in-vitro fertilization (IVF) across the country.

“Senate Democrats have embraced a Summer of Scare Tactics – a partisan campaign of false fearmongering intended to mislead and confuse the American people,” read the statement signed by all 49 members of the Senate Republican Conference. “In vitro fertilization is legal and available in every state across our nation. We strongly support continued nationwide access to IVF, which has allowed millions of aspiring parents to start and grow their families.”

Sen. Katie Britt, R-AL, posted the statement on her Senate website. Along with Sen. Ted Cruz, R-TX, Britt introduced a pro-IVF bill last month which many critics denounced as “feeding” a leftist narrative.

Senate Democrats blocked the bill Wednesday – the same day Republicans released their pro-IVF statement.

Britt and outgoing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-KY, were the two lead signatories of Wednesday’s statement.

NBC News Senior National Political Reporter Sahil Kapur noted on X (formerly Twitter) that the statement came “ahead of a Senate vote [Thursday] on a Democratic-led bill codifying protections for IVF and assisted reproductive technology.”

Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-IL, introduced the Democrats’ pro-IVF bill, which observers have called more extreme than Britt’s and Cruz’s bill. As expected, Republicans blocked the Democratic bill Thursday.

Last week, CatholicVote Director of Government Affairs Tom McClusky warned that federal Republican lawmakers are walking into a trap on life issues – such as IVF, abortion, and contraception – set by Democrats.

McClusky noted that by continuing to play rhetorical defense in response to Democratic actions on these issues, Republicans will inadvertently boost President Joe Biden’s struggling reelection bid.

“In this current election, voter attention is focused squarely on inflation, the border, crime, and the economy,” McClusky explained:

That is why Joe Biden and the Democrats are working so hard to instead have voters focus on issues that the Democrats feel they are stronger on. Topics like abortion, IVF, and contraception.

So what do the Republicans want to focus on? You guessed it: abortion, IVF, and contraception!

Mediscare from the 1990s is back as IVF.

Unfortunately there are people out there who will fall for “Republicans want to ban birth control and IVF”.

Oh and “democracy” too.

The Congressmen that think this is something the Federal government was created to legislate upon are idiots.

If republicans would keep their heads down and do something for the economy and immigration instead of talking about banning IVF and birth control which they have in the past which is why democrats are calling their bluff. They’d be better off. Republicans can be their worst enemy.

Do I want to pay for your birth control? No!

Do I want to pay for your abortion? No!

Do I want to pay for your IVF? No!

Do I want to pay a higher premium for health insurance in order to avoid paying for abortion? No!

Do I think it is proper to create ten embryos (eight of which might get destroyed) so Doctor Greedy can charge $5,000 instead of $500 for creating just one?

No!

“If republicans would keep their heads down and do something for the economy”

Here in Florida houses just a decade ago were affordable for those who would work rationally to acquire one.

Beware of any politician doing things “for the economy”.

No it’s not that the Republicans are proposing banning IVF or birth control, it’s that the Dems are pushing radical bills to reverse SCOTUS abortion ruling.

Dems add a bit in their bills about IVF and birth control so when the Pubbies vote no Dems can claim Pubbies are trying to take your rubbers away.

It’s an old trick but it works.

A shame nobody asked us.

The Hyde Amendment kept tax funds from going to pay for abortions. Then it has been ignored and stepped over.

The days before the old label “uniparty” meant people who didn’t want the things you said should shun the Dems and vote GOP. But what if the GOP gets wobbly knees and chickens out? As all weekdays and weekends plus holidays. Robert Ringer used to call them the Republicrats.

“The Congressmen that think this is something the Federal government was created to legislate upon are idiots.”

The FDA has long regulated drugs.

Drugs are commercial products subject to the Article I Section 8 commerce clause.

Of course, a legal right alone does not justify a legal action, which should be based on the ‘necessary and proper” clause.

My ability to continue living by purchasing a medical cost coverage insurance policy should be in no way impeded by federal law.

Yes housing went up some in Florida, but when you sell your home in Maryland for 900K and buy a home in Florida for 425K, it’s still very affordable. That’s what’s happening with all the northerners coming down here.

Agreed. Name one bill introduced by Republicans to lower the cost of food, petrol products, insurance, pharma and clothing? Or for that matter immigration? I can’t think of a thing.

Absolutely not a one. Very inept house. I’d imagine they’ll lose it in November. After 22 and the perfect storm for them and they only ended up five votes over majority. They can forget the next two years. The senate will be crucial which luckily we have an excellent chance there.

Drugs are commercial products subject to the Article I Section 8 commerce clause.

Making commerce regular (consistent) between the States has nothing to do with the power to ban or heavily restrict anything. Why would alcohol require a Constitutional amendment to ban, but other drugs they can do whatever willy-nilly?

For couples unable to conceive IVF is a blessing. Abortion is the curse. Birth control is true choice. Don’t want one, don’t start one.
