Galileo was found guilty of stating an unproven theory as fact.I wish this false hood would stop being repeated. Galileo was not tried and imprisoned for questioning the geocentric model of the universe. He was imprisoned for lese majesty, or belittling the king (pope).

I do know that the idea that the Church opposed the concept of a heliocentric solar system is false. The rule was that theories could be entertained, but only as theories -- not as fact -- until proven. The Church was a promoter of science.
