A third of that is totally due to carrying the national debt.
and paying for the healthcare of others
Depends on where and how that one family lives.

Family of FOUR? That is barely enough for a SINGLE person never mind 4! Go look at the rents and property taxes in these blue cities and states
You must live on about $177,000.00 a year and are having a tough time making it.
What is “comfortably”?
Yup they ne3d to define that term.
Average for basic 2 or 3 bedroom apartment in OC Calif. $2600 to $3500 a month. Single family home would be closer to $4K. Going inland to Riverside or San Bernardino County is just as brutal. Add to that utilities, groceries, insurance, auto payments…. Basically you have to live with room mates to afford a roof over your head… if you are a young family you might need to have a roomie renting that third bedroom and put all your kids in one room.
One of the reasons housing is so expensive is that living in places with low cost housing will make you wind up either dead or robbed.
>> I never imagined that we would ever see a time when it takes $177,798 for a family of four to live comfortably in the United States.
From a source named “Economic Collapse Blog”, I totally believe they never foresaw such a time. Hahahahaha
I could live quite well on $177K per year. Do I have to work for it?

Sleeping under a table at a roadside park,
a man could wake up dead!
Have you no Pride?
Joke Earl Nightingale used to tell.
In New York City a police officer saw an owner of a small business he knew get grazed by a passing car and thrown to the ground.
Relieved the man was not badly injured he called for an ambulance and took off his jacket and placed it around him to keep the fallen man warm.
Cop: “Are you comfortable, sir?”
Man: “I wouldn’t say I’m comfortable but yes, I make a good living.”
A family of four can easily live on $100k or less.
When they use the term "comfortably" it carries connotations that just don't hold water.
I'm not saying the family would live in wealthy parts of the US - but that they could live in a lower cost of living state and be just fine.
Is that before or after taxes? Please include income and property tax.
The $177,000 is supposed to be the baseline in the relatively inexpensive state of Mississippi. Yes, we don’t know what living comfortably is supposed to mean in this context.
nonsense
“Is that before or after taxes?”
The article appears to mean the $177000 amount is what the family needs available to spend for a year and that would include all taxes owed and insurance (medical, auto, home, renters, etc.).
If the source of the $177000 is strictly income from a job(s) that means the family must make $85/hour combined. IMO these types of articles amount to clickbait and usually leave more questions than answers.
I see what you did there, and yes, I have pride and I know it beats sleeping in our king sized bed.
