“Only the Good Die Young”. As a young hormonal Catholic boy, that one was relatable. I still sing it loudly, even though I know I probably shouldn’t on a few different levels.

I think it was St. Louis, where the local archdiocese requested that Billy not play it at his concert.

He played it twice.

Sigh. As a young Catholic girl I found it offensive, appalling. I wondered what Catholics ever did to him for him to write a song like that. I did not know that there were many men who had no respect for chastity, for waiting for marriage, and ridiculed it. Billy Joel is talented but there is a part of him that is callous, insensitive to those who strive for Godliness. Maybe he did me a favor to wise me up and prepare me for the long slog toward meeting my husband. But as a kid it was a sock in the stomach when it came on the radio.
