When I started getting int popular music big around maybe 5th or 6th grade I was huge into Billy Joel.. still one of the artists I will listen to almost anytime or mood.
To pick a favorite? Not easy
Prelude/angry young man is amazing.
Scenes from an Italian Restaurant
Big Shot
Only the Good Die Young
Countless others still resonate with me to this day.
Souvenir is a simple great song.
Honesty
Always a woman
Running on Ice
I go to Extremes
Anyway when I started to learn guitar I wanted to learn some Billy Joel’s songs obviously.. being most are arranged around the piano (though he plays rhythm guitar as well) it took a while before I could play most anything of his close to how it sounds. Later once I was more capable with barre chords it opened up more of his catalogue to me
Don’t ask me why is one of songs that is guitar centric and not too difficult to play simplified with mostly open chords.
Currently I’ve been enjoying my and working on Weekend Song… off his very early albums so many don’t know it but still a great song
With Billy I enjoy the deep cuts more than the ‘hits’.
